That's too bad. BTW, much of the business he does these days with his rink concerns youth hockey. So you know, this rink was at one time a grocery store and is located close to about four different schools in two school districts, and draws a huge clientele from all over the Eastside, even though their location seems to be a bit off the beaten path.
I forgot about Sprinker, but do they have organized youth hockey based out of there? I don't know if they do; I thought it was more for figure skating, etc.

And by the way to those of you putting info out about local rinks, thank you for giving me a little new knowledge. And certainly bolstering the case for why this market should be able to support the NHL when it makes its way here.

(Disclaimer: I lived on Long Island, NY during the Islanders' Stanley Cup era and attended a few Buffalo Sabres games when I lived in Rochester, NY. in the mid-late 1990s. It will be very interesting to see if an NHL team does arrive in Seattle in the next few years, lockouts notwithstanding.)
Thanks for that info. I did not realize there were 13 rinks in the Puget Sound. I was only familiar with Sno-King, the Kent Valley rink, and Huscroft's deal, Castle Ice out towards Liberty High School east of Renton. Where are the others all located?

Comcast Arena (Everett)- where the WHL silvertips play. occasionally available for the GSHL and public skate Everett Comcast Community Ice - in same building as Comcast Arena. Open skating daily & many GSHL games Lynwood Ice Center - public, GSHL and other hockey use Olympic View Arena (Mountlake terrace) - Olympic sized ice figure skating & multiple hockey groups use. UW club hockey. No public skating. Seattle Jr Hockey Highland Ice Arena (Shoreline) - 2 sheets (regular & small sized), public & hockey use. Only rink north of Tacoma not used by GSHL. Kingsgate Ice Arena (Kirkland) - public & various hockey use. Former T-birds practice ice. Run by SnoKing (Huscroft's group)
Key Arena - former home of WHL Thunderbirds. Occasionally ice is available for public use (in winter time) but rarely used anymore Castle Ice (Renton) - 2 sheets (regular & small sized) public & hockey use. As a Canucks fan I'm pumped. If Seattle plays 4 home games against Vancouver, that's 4 sellouts. Montreal and Toronto probably sellout. Calgary and Edmonton would be a decent draw. So basically 20% of the home schedule with solid draws.
Seattle is a great sports town when they get behind a team. A third stadium in this area will probably bump the development even faster than it currently is going and really revitalize Seattle.

yeah, I mean I don't hate Unions when they're doing their basic rights, it's admirable. But when they start becoming a strong arm lobby group and pushing everyone around, they lose me.

Also, in a December 20th Tacoma News Tribune article, a Chicago-based consultant informed a city council committee that it would be highly unlikely that an NBA or NHL team would end up playing at the 30-year-old Tacoma Dome for various reasons. The Tacoma Dome feasibility study was commissioned by the city of Tacoma at a cost of $95,000.
Seattle has the corporate support to make the NHL work. If they had a new arena five years ago they never would have lost the NBA and could have had an NHL team by now as well. Seattle would not only get fans from northern WA and of course BC who can't get to see Canucks games, they also have a base of hockey fans from WHL cities such as Everett, Portland and Spokane to draw from. And let's not forget the base of hockey fans from the Seattle Thunderbirds, either. Both the NHL and WHL can co-exist because they cater to different price points in the entertainment market (and the T-Birds arena is located between Seattle and Tacoma, so they draw from other parts of the greater Puget Sound area)

Also, and this is probably worth a separate thread, but the Sacramento Bee is reporting the Virginia Beach mayor has set a deadline of next week for a lease to be signed with an NBA team for their proposed new arena or that deal will be set aside for this year.
