Ryan Murphy can thank his lucky stars his club coach picked this team.

Wotherspoon over Corrado is still puzzling, but not nearly as Dumba would have been. Much more comfortable with Wotherspoon on the third pairing than Dumba or Murphy; hopefully Murphy is only used in the role of a powerplay specialist.

I had Wotherspoon pencilled as the first D cut. I gotta say I'm pretty shocked he made it in.

Other than that, it's a pretty great Canadian team thats been assembled.

Glad Drouin made the team.

He is a hell of a hockey player, and I don't know despite increased hype people really understand. He also seems to elevate his game in pressure situations, which bodes well for this tourny.

I had Corrado over Wotherspoon. Corrado had a truly strong camp.

It's akin to having your father being the coach on a rep team.

I'm guessing Wotherspoon got picked because of his PK play but it's ******** because Corrado never even got a chance on the PK in this camp even though he's great at it in Sudbury. Don't really see anything Wotherspoon can do that Corrado can't.

That said, at least Wotherspoon will be reliable unlike Dumba so it's likely not going to hurt Team Canada.

That's a load of ****. He should have at least made the #7.

Hell of a run, Frankie.

Pretty sure Wotherspoon is the 7th defeseman. Seems like they wanted a LD in case Ouellet gets hurt.

Murphy RS
Corrado RS
Dumba RS
Sproul RS
Wotherspoon LS

Which of the above is not a threat to Murphy?

TSN said that they essentially wanted a big bottom pairing. That's what Corrado lost out to.

He still has a shot in case of injury or NHL coming back.

So they're going with two LD who both have no experience playing the right side? Seems doubtful. Wotherspoon is the 7th guy in all this. Murphy got his #6 spot thanks to his coach.

The team has 5LD and 2RD. Makes no sense to me.

i thought they weren't allowed replacements which is why clubs are committing their players because if all of the nhl hopefuls got called up, they'd be at like 15 players

Emergency recall is pretty much his only shot now but that's unlikely, especially when Sproul and Dumba were later cuts.

Let's just hope he uses this as motivation going forward and move on.

Oh, and that Murphy is absolutely awful in the tournament.

Yah, they were kind of all over the place. After stating that about Wotherspoon they also said Murphy would have to play 5on5 as well.

Either way, I think it's a mistake taking Murphy.

That doesn't mean anything. It's not like they order these cuts based on how worthy they were of making the team. The only thing that matters is the day you get cut (or not).

Well, that's disappointing about Corrado - I watched all three games from camp, and was certain he had made the team.

It's a shame for Corrado that Murphy is Spott's "boy", I think if there is a different coach for the team, Murphy is likely cut as a defensive liability, despite his occasional offensive brilliance.

Oh well, it's still a great Team Canada.

I'd laugh if there was an injury and he declined.

The thing about Murphy's offensive brilliance is that very rarely is it team based.

He doesn't make anyone better. He just goes end to end, making a forward cover his ass, and the rest of the team just watches.

IMO he isn't a team oriented player.

Nailed it. His **** might have worked in Atom all stars, but it's going to get them killed against the Russians. And I'll be there to lol at it like the bitter, bitter Canucks fan I am.

Thought I saw a little Kessel in Shinkaruk during the post-cut interview too.

I thought Murphy looked decent against the CIS all-stars today - didn't give away the puck along the boards like he did against UofA. He still had a couple of giveaways in the defensive slot - I guess he is a little like Jovanovski with a high risk profile - but he also had at least one memorable rush wher he created his own scoring chance.

As to your team oriented comment, I get what you're saying on the rush, he seems to have the blinders on a bit (say, like Ballard), but on the powerplay he seems to have good vision and distribute the puck pretty well to teammates.
