Congrats to Hockey Canada for having the balls to bring Drouin and Mackinnon. Their pure scoring talent—especially Drouin, who is phenomenal—is too valuable to leave off the team. It's the opposite of the type of thinking that left Stamkos off in 2010 and Crosby in 2006.

Too bad about Corrado, I don't know enough about Wotherspoon to really judge the two against each other.

It's pretty apparent that Spott has had Murphy pencilled in for the third line RD all along. I thought that was where Frank fit in best and had Murphy as the seventh PP QB type. Wotherspoon wasn't even on my radar because of it. However, knowing Spott likely was only looking to fill the seventh role, Wotherspoon is a good choice. He and Frank were both steady most of the week and he was good on the PK. He has a bit more size than Frank and just in case Oulette doesn't heal like he should, Wotherspoon can jump in.

For whoever said Frank didn't have a chance on the PK, I seem to remember seeing him out there today making a bad read, getting caught out of position and taking a hooking penalty to put us down 5 on 3. Looked to me like he was motioning/talking to the ref after the call saying he thought the puck went over the blue line, but he should have kept playing until the whistle went. Now one bad play isn't why he was cut, but as good as his camp was overall, he just wasn't what they were looking for.

I was hoping he would make it, but he was an outside chance from the start. I'm still quite shocked on the order of cuts though. I hope they did them based on age and letting the guys who may be there next year be the final cuts. I'd hate to think that Dumba would be the first recall if one of these guys on D gets recalled to an NHL camp.

****, I thought I was watching some 2006 WJC American interviews. The guy is Kessel's doppleganger! Even the way he speaks is Kessel-esque!

That is straight up frightening to think the coaches are even talking about "would have to play 5on5". That an admission they are afraid of what's going to happen 5on5, that's crazy, if they are that worried why take him? If he's only there for PP take him as 12th forward and only trot him out for PP. What a bizzare thing to say considering they don't have a 7th D who is RS and could cover for him, which is why he'll have to play 5on5. If they were that worried it'd make more sense to have a replacement for him 5on5.

Reilly-Hamilton
Ouellet-Harrington
Reinhart-Murphy
Wotherspoon

Why not put Harrington on the left side? I guess that would mean Murphy + Corrado at 2&3 on the RS and given they are worried about Murphy 5on5 that's probably a bit scary. OTOH if Hamilton goes down we'll have Murphy on the 1st pairing, LS Harrington on 2nd, LS Wotherspoon on the 3rd.

I don't see it, not to mention Hunter looks happy most of the time, not like a timid introvert.

Hunter smiles, Kessel grins.

*shrugs

Ya maybe you're right. I am always the one in my circle of friends to make note of lookalikes and people always tell me I'm out to lunch. I might have a weird eye/brain.

Probably why TSN is displeased. I imagine the ratings would be much higher if people in Vancouver had a prospect in the game.

It's there. There's been two of us here in this thread who noticed it, and a handful more mentioned something on the main boards. They're not doppelgängers or anything, but keep an eye out for it next time.

I read the news at 3:15, couldn't even continue working until i left at 4. I am still a bit peeved.

Definitely see Kessel in Shinkaruk ever since i saw him last season, both in playing style and in the face. Not as awkward though, thats for sure.

On another note, McEneny gets the PP sans Murphy for a month now and picks up a PP assist tonight.

YOu can watch the tsn panel talk about the cuts on tsn.ca now, spent about 2 minutes talking about Corrado.

Are we one of the only teams with no prospects in the WJC this year?

Shame about Corrado, but he was a 5th round pick and doesn't have a history with Hockey Canada so I'm not surprised at all.

It's funny because neither of those reasons has anything to do with his camp performance, but both were no doubt factors.

I honestly think it just came down to size. Reilly, Murphy and Ouellet are all fairly small guys, so I'm not shocked they went with the bigger guy for the 7th spot.

Mackenzie said as much.

5 lefties and 2 righties, don't like that choice either.

I think he had no chance from the beginning.

That's why I'm upset, he couldn't have done anything else. The fact TSN made a point to mention that he was a surprise cut speaks to this. The team was selected prior too...

So WJC penalty killing pairings, Wotherspoon replaces Reilly 1st pair, Reinhart joins Harrington 2nd pairing, leaves Ouellet-Murphy if Hamilton or Harrington take a penalty.

Wotherspoon-Hamilton
Reinhart-Harrington
Ouellet-Murphy

I don't see why they would split up Ouellet-Harrington for the PK. Probably just move Reinhart up with Hamilton, and let Wotherspoon fill in where necessary.

Watching the congrats on TSN to the players who made it...

Ryan Murphy's interview rubs me the WRONG way.

"I was following Twitter and when I saw the last defenceman released I was really pleased."

not verbatum, but you get the idea.

The only reason he's on the team is because of blatant nepotism.
