I'm probably the biggest Danault fan on this board, but I think he won't sneak into the second line. For this tournement, he is better suited as THE shutdown center. He is great on faceoffs and his hockey sense is through the roof. The kid plays the game like a pro.

He can play the wing, but frankly, they'd be better off using him as a center. He can shutdown anybody.

Surprised to see both Lipon and Drouin on the team, and McNeill off.. think he would be better suited for the 4th line that either of these guys, so it'll be interesting to see how the lines shake out.

How much of a factor do you guys think the bigger international ice surface was in team selection?

They even play pretty similar, and even stranger is they sound quite a like as well in my opinion.

But... does Shinkaruk have Kessel's ability to look awkward on camera?

Nah, it's more along the lines of I'm here to pump my tires by bigging up my previous risky player assessment "I guarantee the fifth round draft pick won't make the team"

Other than being off with MacNiell vs Camara and Corrado vs Wotherspoon, this is the roster I had picked. I'm really happy with Spott going for a more skilled fast squad. Also, I hope he plays both 17 year olds as regulars and says goodbye to the top 6/bottom 6 formula. I'd love for him to have success with this and change Team Canada's rigid line system for good. There is no need to have two checking lines when you are the deepest nation for skill in the tournament. Force other teams to defend against our strength.

Imho, releasing Brossoit instead of Binnington or Patterson may prove costly if Subban goes down. Statistically, he was the best goalie in camp, I believe, and he's had the most big game experience and success out of all 4 goalies in camp over the last year.

I think Spott and the coaching staff read too much into his struggles in the shootout.

This.

I'm very happy we have a skilled/faster team going into this tournament on a larger ice surface. Guys like Tom Wilson serve a purpose, but their strengths are neutralized on a larger ice surface and thus are rendered ineffective. Going with MacKinnon and Drouin will give us 3 scoring lines, and we have one hell of a checking line that can also score on you. I really really like this team.

I agree with this assessment, as well. I've never been particularly fond of the traditional top 6/bottom 6 roles formula.

No Paterson was the best goalie in the camp games with 0 goals against. They also judge more then just this camp so they must not have liked something about Brossoit

Huberdeau-RNH-Scheifele
Hudon-Strome-Ritchie
Camara-Jenner-Danault
Drouin-Mackinnon-Rattie
Lipon

I had Mcneill over Lipon but Lipon really stepped up today

Danault is a great C but can play RW just fine and forms a great shutdown line with Jenner. This also keep Mackinnon in the lineup at C

I'm shocked he didn't make the team.
Me too - easily the biggest surprise for me. This team is small, fast and should have no problem scoring goals. Keeping them out of the net will be a problem. There will also be no intimidation this year. Softest Team Canada I have ever seen.

There going for speed and skill this year and by looks of it will only have one checking line. In the past they have had 2 skill/fast lines and 2 checking lines and it clearly didn't work also with how deep canada is they can't afford to be have top 6, bottom 6 and i believe this is one of the better teams in the past years because we got rid of that top 6, bottom 6 model.

World class forward group right there! So stoked for the tournament. Loads of talent up front and on the backend as well. Tough cuts but looking over the final team..I love it!

Does Lipon have any physicality to his game? I haven't seen him play much.

Yes, quite a bit. Camara, Lipon, Jenner and Ritchie are your physical forwards.

Yes, and I'm sure you could have told us that Corrado's jr team plays on Olympic size ice at home games.
