Those lines make sense. Haapala-Barkov-Lehkonen played together in Sweden, Aaltonen-Teräväinen-Ikonen played together in Lake Placid, and Granlund-Salomäki-Armia played together at the WU18C's.

They might go with 4 forwards in one of the PP units. Maybe something along these lines:

Salomäki-Granlund-Armia
Teräväinen-Ristolainen

Haapala-Barkov-Lehkonen
Määttä-Pokka
Yeah Salminen! I always mix mustonen and Salminen.

Finland is going to be good this year. Nice forward set, too. I'd assume Barkov will be first-line center. The kid is amazing.

I think that this kind of forward lineup could be interesting:

Teräväinen-Barkov-Armia
Salomäki-Granlund-Lehkonen
Ikonen-Aaltonen-???
Hännikäinen-Salminen-Lamberg

??? would have to be some big guy, wouldn't mind trying Nykopp there just to bring some size. I'm not really into using Haapala because he seems to be a product of Barkov and Nieminen. Ofcourse they could try him with Barkov and someone else in order to replicate that line but I don't see it happening with this material.

So, will all players participate in the preliminary game against Canada on 20th, despite a bunch of SM-liiga games played on the same day?

Apparently the 1st camp is now over. Perhonen so far the only player cut.

Not exactly cut as I hear it, but dropped out due to health problems. Wasn't fit enough after all.

Finlands possible top 6 next year:

Lehkonen-Barkov-Haapala
Kulmala-Teräväinen-Ikonen

D:

Määttä-Pokka
Ristolainen-Lindell
Vainio-Vainonen

Depth players:

Saku Salminen
Markus Hännikäinen
Henri Ikonen

Goalies:

Korpisalo
Juvonen

D is extremely strong and goalies are good and experienced. There is strong possibility that Barkov plays in the NHL.

Haapala.. Hmm. Is he good enough for this level? I haven't been able to watch that many games in SM-liiga this season to know.

Haapala was solid and putting up good numbers when he got to play with Barkov and Nieminen at the start of the season, but began to decline when he was replaced in favor of Jannik Hansen. So here's hoping he picks it up now that he's back together with Sasha.

Another upside in that lineup is that it gives us three extremely skilled and potetial scoring lines. On a leaner year, any of those could be the top unit.

The downside is that there is not much physicality beyond Salomäki, but then again, all of those guys are playing among grown men night in night out and seem to have little trouble, so maybe that's a piece of overblown worry. Rindell apparently doesn't seem to think it's an issue.

Haapala did go scoreless for 5 games on Barkov's wing before getting separated, granted Barkov did have a bit of a slower period too (2 points). To add on that, Haapala hasn't recorded a point in the last 19 games he's played (including the 5 games mentioned).

I hope the lines are not set in stone and that Rindell dares to try different things, or it'd seem there's a bunch of players competing for only fourth line spots. I'd also love to see Armia on a capable playmaker's wing.

He got 1+1 in Sundsvall though, playing together with Barkov.

To a lesser extent when compared to Barkov and Teräväinen. I see Markus as more of a third link who would complement a line well, rather than a guy who truly gets things going. But I guess I'd need to at least see the U-20 Premiere games before making conclusions. In the end, my main point was that I'd at least like to see different things tried.

I don't know if this accounts to anything, but in last year's tournament, Pulkkinen scored six times. MaG got an assist to five of those, while MiG only got four.

Besides, chemistry.

Me too... granted the things they have now don't work. And there's no way of saying that before seeing some games first, of course.

Basicly I don't care what Haapala has scored in latest SM-Liiga games. I've seen those games, and he's doing the same work, the points just haven't come. He is playing against men there and it will be lot more easier to play against juniors again. He knows what Barkov does, he does his good work in the corners, and we can get most out of him when he is paired with Sasha. At other lines I think he is useless. Haapala with Barkov deepens Finnish offensive corps and we can spread the talent better in other lines.

Putting best guys together is playing the game with XBox way. Spreading the talent and keeping already working dynamic duos together is more known as real-life winning ice-hockey.

Armia as a right handed sniper and a good crease-crasher (like Nieminen) should fit perfectly on that line as a 3rd piece.

Just to be clear, I have nothing against Haapala there as long as he plays like he needs to. I was just answering to a stats-based factoid with another stats-based factoid. I do realize that pre-existing chemistry is important especially in a short tournament like this.

My biggest problem is with the sub-6 ft. line, but it does seem inevitable when there are only two over 1.8m tall players in top-9. At least the tournament is played on big ice.

Starts on Monday, but the SM-liiga players (which means most of them) won't re-join the camp until Wednesday. I think at least most of them will play a league game on Tuesday.

That 2nd line's a real midget line. Not pleased at all.

Kuusela - Aaltonen - Ikonen, Blues' 3rd line is a similar midget line (kuusela 5'9) and has worked very well in the Sm-liiga. I don't think it's a problem. Besides we have a shortage of big players so we can't discard a certain line just because they're all somewhat small.

It's not like we're proposing a line of Haapala - Ikonen - Järveläinen

The shortage isn't that bad. There are at least two bigger guys (H. Ikonen and Nykopp) who could be fitted into that line in J. Ikonen's place. It wouldn't weaken the skill level significantly and it would add a more physical element. Now it looks like these guys are competing for 4th line spots, and there are more than plenty of suitable guys for that line already.
