From Slovan homepage:

HC SLOVAN Bratislava resume their quest to win the 2012 European Trophy as at 20:30 C.E.T. they face off against Swedish side Färjestad BK with an almost full strength line-up.

The defence includes a large proportion of HC SLOVAN’s top players, apart from the injured duo of Ľubomír Višňovsky and Martin Štajnoch. The opportunity arises to Vladimir Mihalik and Ivan Ďatelinka. The forward lines see some changes, as HC SLOVAN are without Tomáš Mikúš and Marko Daňo, who are on duty with the Slovakian U20 national side. In goal today is Branislav Konrad. Today’s roster clear indicates that the host side are taking the tournament seriously and they want to secure victory.

Roster: Konrád (Janus) - Sigalet, Tabaček, Vondrka, Bližňák, Miklík - Sersen, Sekera, Hudáček Lipiansky, Bartovič - Mihálik, Ďatelinka, Bakoš, Kytnár, Kukumberg - Kudrna, Dravecký, Ölvecký, Šťastný Preisinger.

One needs to distinguish PR releases from reality.

That is funny. Bad PR move of Slovan... another bad PR move this season, but this one is the biggest fail

That new Slovan site looks questionable, too. Difficult to find new articles (easy on the old site). I still can't find a single video-clip on the new site, and videos on the old site were Flash-only (no luck viewing them on phones, tablets). And, the league standings on Slovan's site are still something like 3 weeks old!

Someone pointed out that if Slovan were to play all 3 European Trophy games this week, it would mean Slovan would need to play 6 games in 10 days (3 KHL games coming up next week). That's no doubt the explanation for what we saw tonight, 1-4 loss to Färjestad and exit from the tournament. (Slovan joined this tourney before they knew they would be playing in the KHL.) There were 7 players missing tonight from Slovan's top KHL line-up.

Slovan did not take this game seriously. It was training game for them. You know, many tough games next week and in december. KHL´s play-off is more important for Slovan than funny tourney called European Trophy.

Minus 7 players from the best line-up, and the rest under-motivated, I agree.

I heard Färjestad don't have a particularly tough week ahead of them starting from Monday, but it's different for Slovan. There's a crucial 3-game homestand against Ufa, Nizhnekamsk and Kazan next Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. If you can avoid playing 6 games in 10 days... then probably what happened last night is likely to happen.

Well. Slovan is just doing what is best for them this season. They give players a chance to show themselves who don't play that often in KHL. They already didn't take the group stage any serious (not only because of being co-hosts but also because they didn't see the importance of the tournament anymore after being in KHL).

PS: It might have been better if Slovan had left the tournament after the group stage and Vienna would be the only hosts? This way they stole a seat in the tourney from a motivated team that qualified...

They did try harder in the pre-season games. Although they usually lacked their team captain, number 1 goal-tender, NHL reinforcements, etc., in those games, too.

That would potentially be an even worse PR disaster than what happened yesterday. Does Vienna have 2 suitable hockey arenas? I remember how everyone criticized Vienna's main arena during the World Championships in Austria... I'm sure Vienna & Bratislava were chosen as co-hosts because of being within an hour's drive from each other, so that it's possible to stage the play-off games simultaneously and the winning team from Vienna will have practically zero travel to do for the final match.

PS: I'm afraid the atmosphere at those weekend games might be funereal, unless Vienna Capitals advance to the finals and bring their own fans along. There were 2,200 people at the Tappara vs. HV71 game, but that was before Slovan's game. I heard that a number of fans who bought tournament passes just won't bother to show up for the weekend games.

Missing from the best-possible/usual KHL line-up were: Janus, Višňovský, Štajnoch, Šatan, Švarný, Daňo, Mikúš. And those that did play did not seem to do it with a do-or-die passion. Reading about the schedule concerns above helps explain why. Slovan's assistant coach called it Slovan's worst performance of the year, including pre-season games, and after losing the game, players now get 5 days of rest instead of 2 days of rest before playing 3 KHL games in 4 nights.

IMO, It would be a really bad trade for both teams.

Avangard would lose defensively very sound player with experience and leadership while Amur would lose one of its leaders and add Nesterov when they already have like 10 depth forwards.

Osipov has contract until 30.4.2013, for remainder of this season, then become RFA and it will be almost impossible for Amur to resign him. Look at Vrana. Amur wanted to resign him, but LEV gave him better offer. So, trade of Osipov makes sense. Only Q is what Amur requires

edit
both Nesterov and Pujacs have contract for this season only

Trading him makes sense but not without gaining any assets out of it. They should look for a better deal than this one, there's still a lot of time till the trade deadline.

Maybe it's the new trend in the KHL - to fire a winning coach out of the blue.

One may suspect that it's an army trend.
