Mikhail Grabovski

I'm just curious on what we can get as a return for him. I know the leafs aren't shopping to get rid of him, but I'd like to know what other teams are offering for him.

For the people that will come in and say he isn't getting a 1st, Paul freaking Gaustad got a 1st, so that is the lowest basically.

I feel like its out of the question unless we are getting a #1 goalie or centre in a package. We would be horrible down the middle without him.

He can get a 1st, but not for the same reason that Gaustad did.

Paul Gaustad got a 1st at the trade deadline in a heated market from the Nashville Predators.

I wouldn't use Gauthier's trade for Moore (A 2nd) as a reference for setting value either for instance. That was expensive.

And we could sell Grabovski to highest bidder at the trade deadline, which would be alot more than a 1st.

To all the people pretending to be curious about a player, please do a quick search about that player before posting a thread...and in the case of Grabovski's value, you'd probably find over 20 threads all ready created in the past 6 months.

It doesn't work like that. People typically overpay for rentals at that time. If the trade deadline magically added value to all trades we'd see more of them. You would get more than a 1st because Grabovski is worth more than a 1st.

First off, why would the Leafs trade him? It makes no sense at all. For years now we have heard Leaf fans say the need a #1 center, why would they even consider moving a center who is a pretty good #2 guy? Do you want the Leafs to ice a team comprised entirely of 3rd line centers?

Not shopping him but if we were to ever trade Grabo, I would only move him in a package for a legit young #1 C. You won't find many players with the heart, determination, skill, and fearlessness of Grabo.

Grabovski isn't a player that usually returns a young #1 center, sure maybe if it is Grabovski and then add a couple of pieces that you don't want to move and you could possibly interest someone who is looking to trade an older #1 center, but a young #1 center? You are going to have to pay more than it took to get Kessel.

I can safely assure you that your opinion is wrong.

As for OP's question, I'd think Grabovski's value is somewhat around a 1st round pick(15-25 range) plus a B prospect.

Unfortunately, you wouldn't get quite what you would want as a Leaf fan (or at least what some would want).

Teams wouldn't trade a first line centre in a package for him. Unless you find a rareity like the Joe Thornton deal. So you wouldn't get say Toews or Kopitar.

Teams also wouldn't wouldn't give up their potential first line centre for him for example Strome or Schiefele.

Same goes for goalies for example Quick or Price or Gibson or Subban.

Grabovski would likely net you a package of someone of the same ilk in terms of skill level which would just have no point the way the Leafs are built right now (like trading Grabovski for Clarke MacArthur and a 2nd or for Carl Gunnarsson, Joe Colborne and a 2nd).

Or you could get the likely price of 1 first and a prospect, and use that first with your own to move up and draft the guy you want.

1st and a prospect/ another pick likely a 2nd round pick.

He'd be great for a team looking to have a strong 2nd line centre who could cover 1st line duties if there's an injury, but he (and Tomas Plekanec) are on the weaker side of 1st line centres, but would be great 2nd liners.

As a Hawks fan I would definitely be interested. A first in 2014 I would have no problem doing. The trouble is figuring out what comes after that. We would also need to send some salary back as we cannot fit in Grabovski with our current cap situation. Someone like Montador has to be headed back.

Haha it'd be a 2013 1st, not '14. I'd look to try to do Hjallmarson+1st for Grabovski+2nd.

Grabovski is not being traded unless it's for an upgrade at center.

This is one guy I have no interest in trading from Toronto. My favorite Leaf.

Like as in confirmed never to play again and Toronto is trading for his rights for advertising and charity purposes?

I agree with the general consensus of ~20 overall plus a B prospect. I also agree that he wouldn't have a big jump in value at the deadline. Pretty much every team that will be in a playoff position will already have 2 top 6 centers (except Chicago) and Grabovski isn't on an expiring contract so they won't be able to afford him the following years at 5.5M on the third line.
