I'd say only Ovechkin and maybe MSL/Sedin. I think we're arguing semantics. The original quote was having a top-10 player on a lifetime contract.

I don't think Kovalchuk or Luongo are top-10 of all players in the league right now. So I assumed he was talking about top-10 at their position.

Kovalchuk is arguably the best winger in the league as well. You can argue for or against him, it's hard to say whose the best, everyone has different opinions.

But, he's definitely a top five winger and a top 10 forward. The only forwards that I say are clear cut ahead of him are Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, and Datsyuk. Unless I'm missing someone, you can debate him being just as good if not better than the rest.

Giroux if you take only last season. Ovechkin if you take the last 5 season.

Kovalchuk is a top 10 forward and a top 5 winger, definitely. There's only Hossa that I would take over Kovalchuk as a winger and I'm not even really sure.

Giroux based on last season, sure. Once we see that consistency, I'd easily put him over Kovalchuk. Right now it's debatable. Ovechkin's debatable as well, they had a Kovalchuk vs. Ovechkin poll on here last month and it was like 150 to 125 in favor or Kovalchuk. Not saying it means Kovalchuk is better, just that a good amount of people think Kovalchuk is better than Ovechkin, it's debatable which one is better really.

I don't like the way he plays and he will face one hell of a crucial season when NHL hockey starts back. But right now Ovechkin still deserves to be ahead of Kovalchuk. That's just my opinion though.
