Dissolved Contracts - Open UFA
http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/i...emptive-strike
Based on the lawsuit the NHL is pushing all contracts could be voided. Keeping in mind that this is yet another terrible move in a long line of terrible moves by both sides, I'd like to pose a scenario.
Who would you offer to if it was open UFA for everyone?

There's no way that would happen, IMO. That would be a death sentence for the league. And if it did, I would assume most players would still sign with their respective teams.
Wishful thinking probably.

This won't happen. Just a bargaining chip.

That'll be the New York Rangers, should something like this ever happen.

Umberger - Dubinsky - Prospal
Foligno - Brassard - Johansen
Dorsette - Anisimov - Atkinson
Boll - Mackenzie - Letestu
Johnson - Wisniewski
Tyutin - Nikitin
Aucoin - Murray
Bobrovski
Mason
I think in this type of scenario we would gain one player in each position but lose 2 players, and many russian players in the league will remain in russia for the next couple years.
Umberger - Dubinsky - Lucic
Prospal - Briere - Johansen
Dorsett - Anisimov - Atkinson
Gillies - Letestu - Calvert
Johnson - Keith
Wisniewski - Murray
Erixon - Nikitin
Miller
McElhinney

I made a sarcastic remark to someone else's "ultimate lineup"... it wasn't mine. That being said, if someone offered Jonathan Quick a ridiculous amount of money to sit on the bench and watch what would likely be the most dominant NHL team of all-time play, I think he would be happy to collect that paycheck.

With that lineup, two things would happen.
1) Columbus would win the Cup every year for the next 10 years, and
2) A bunch of people would
still find a way to blame Howson for something, and/or credit everyone else for the success

Checking line looks weak and who provides the energy on the 4th?

If contracts dissolved, the CBJ would look much like it did in its first year I think.

"He traded Nash and ALL of the players he picked up are gone!"
"This guy thinks that Toews is a fourth-liner!"
Yeah, I can see that becoming standard.

worse.
If contracts were dissolved, obviously the salary cap, and perhaps more importantly for Columbus, the salary floor would go with it.
Can't tell you how excited I am to potentially have a $20M team facing off 6 times a year against Mike Illitch's $200M squad...
