Man! How bad is that Pelicans team? Pavs is posting reasonable GAA and SV% numbers, and only has 1 win? Looks like the 1 win was from him stoning the other team when he got his SO. I also heard that he stopped 49 of 50 shots in another game.

EDIT: Damn, just realized my table had a mistake. Pav's GAA is 2.68 not the 2.16 I had posted.
Here's the other goalies stats...
Player - Team - GP - MIN - W - T - L - SVS - GA - SO - GAA - SVP - Nothing important
1. Juvonen, Janne * Pelicans 3 152.06 0 0 3 69 11 0 4.34 86.25 - 2 1 2
2. Kuusela, Joonas Pelicans 8 384.54 2 1 3 183 20 0 3.12 90.15 41.67 2 6 8
3. Myllyniemi, Jere Pelicans 7 365.25 1 2 3 176 28 0 4.60 86.27 33.33 4 5 5
4. Niemi, Antti Pelicans 10 597.24 3 2 5 295 31 0 3.11 90.49 40.00 8 10 10
5. Pavelec, Ondrej Pelicans 6 358.44 1 1 4 165 16 1 2.68 91.16 25.00 0 3 6

So Niemi has 10gp, 3-5-2 record with a 3.11gaa and .905svp for comparison sake (hard to read table I know).

Pelicans are not even in last place (although they have allowed the most goals in the league)
Place - Team - GP - W - T - L - GF - GA - PTS - PTS/GM - (Last 3 involve winning/losing streak)
1. Jokerit 32 15 9 8 95 84 5 59 1.84 -1 -2 1
2. KalPa 32 13 11 8 91 78 6 56 1.75 -3 -1 1
3. JYP 30 16 5 9 89 72 2 55 1.83 2 -8 -2
4. SAIPA 31 14 8 9 87 89 5 55 1.77 -2 1 -1
5. Weasel 31 13 9 9 100 78 5 53 1.71 -3 1 -1
6. Poleaxe 32 13 8 11 94 85 4 51 1.59 -1 1 -1
7. HPK 31 10 12 9 87 76 8 50 1.61 -2 1 -1

9. HIFK 31 12 6 13 76 77 1 43 1.39 -1 -5 1
10. Aces 30 10 7 13 83 72 5 42 1.40 -7 1 -1
11. Lock 30 12 4 14 73 83 1 41 1.37 1 -8 -1
12. TPS 30 8 11 11 76 85 5 40 1.33 1 -4 -1
13. Pelicans 31 7 6 18 82 112 3 30 0.97 1 -3 -1

Ugh. Good place to play goal if you want to test your reflexes, I guess. Niemi isn't a bad goalie, and even he's getting lit up.

Well, it'll be refreshing change for Pavs to have some defense in front of him if/when the NHL season starts. He may be thankful for even Buff's version of playing defense.

Pavs played today against Russia again in the Euro Hockey Tour tournament.

Russia won 6-0 and really destroyed the Czechs. Pavs faced 16 shots and gave up 4 goals but you can only blame him for the 3rd, before he got pulled. You can watch the goals here:

Some lovely plays from Malkin, Datsyuk, Kovalchuck and the gang.

Russia beat Sweden 5-2 two days ago.

*edit*

And btw... Wheeler lost yesterday against the Iserlohn Rooster (Mike York plays for them) 2-4. Wheels assisted on a PP goal and was a -1.
He's got 14 points in 11 games now.

Man: the 4th Russian goal (Datsyuk's) was beautiful - from the passing that led up to it to the finish on the redirect.

Wheeler had two first assists both on Paul Stastny goals. He has 16 Points in 12 games now. He also had a 10 MIN misconduct

Their chemistry seems to get better and better every game.

Whats the word on Eric Fehr? i realize he is not under contract, but I still believe that if he is not permanently damaged, he could help the team, he seemed to be so unlucky last year, from the surgery then returning too early, in my opinion, and then being snake bit around the net.

I am hoping that he is doing well in Europe so he can have another opportunity in the NHL, with the Jets or otherwise, when this lockout mess is all over.

Any updates?

Eric Fehr is not affliated with the Winnipeg Jets in any way at this time, so that's why he has not been included in the updates I have been making. However, since you asked, Fehr is doing quite well in the SM-Liiga. He is playing with HPK, same team as Antti Miettinen. He is 2nd on the team in pts, 1st in goals despite playing in only 15 of the team's 30 games. He is tied for 15th in the league in goals...but every single player above him that is not a locked out NHLer (Bodker, Joensuu) has played at least 28 games to Fehr's 15. Here's the relevant stats from HPK (Rnk is Rank on HPK).

Rnk - Player - GP - G - A - PTS - +/- - PIM
1 - Ville Rufers Luoma - 30 - 8 - 21- 20 - +10 - 32
2- Eric Fehr - 15 - 10 - 9 - 19 - +7 - 18
3 - Jere Sallinen - 28 - 6 - 10 - 16 - +14 - 16
....
15 - Antti Miettinen - 9 - 3 - 2 - 5 - 0 - 6

Excellent, thanks Holden, I figured he wasn't being tracked for that reason.

What is the reason, if you are aware, that he has only played so few games? Did he start the season late or is it injuries?

He signed late. I think he was trying to wait out the lockout to maybe get a camp invite or last minute deal, but gave up, in mid-November, IIRC. Eliteprospects won't load for me so I can't get the exact date, but yeah that's the reason. I believe he has played every game since signing.

I know its OT, but do you think the Jets are interested in bringing him back, and, if so, do you think we built up enough loyalty for him to want to return?

I think he will be back whenever we play again.

Well, if the season starts this year, it is highly unlikely he will be back this season. Most European contracts only have transfer windows over the summer, and quite clearly HPK is not interested in releasing him this season.

Do I think the Jets organization wants him back? Absolutely. They have shown a tendency to buy low, sell high. Right now, Fehr is a bargain player. After the season last year I was a huge advocate of re-signing him to a one year, league minimum, two-way deal. Give him a chance in camp, but most likely you send him to St. John's and let him have a healthy confidence boosting season down there. Refind his scoring touch, and then in 13-14 you may very well have a big, grinding 20g, 40pt 3rd line winger on your team for dirt cheap, if he can get back to old form. Worse comes to worse you have wasted a roster spot in St. John's for one year, no biggie. Now the exact same scenario seems to panning out, except he's playing in the less physical SM-Liiga, which might have been even better. And he's tearing it up.

Will he want to come back? I don't see why not. He will have very little other option, I can't see many (or really ANY) other teams being interested in what will be 28 year old goal scoring winger with an injury past that couldn't score last we saw. I think the Jets sign him to a 1y, 750K twoway deal for 13-14 and give him the opportunity to earn a spot in camp. Remember that with Antropov, Ponikarovsky, Wellwood all coming off the books, there could be massive turnover in the forward ranks. Personnally I hope they bring back Antro and Poni for 13-14, but still Fehr is a guy who could play everywhere from the vacant 2nd line RW spot, to anywhere in bottom 6 adding some offense, but also doesn't matter if he is often a healthy scratch. Either he turns it around in 13-14 and becomes the 20-20 player again, or he doesn't he is the extra versatile forward for a year or spends 13-14 in STJ, no matter it's a medium reward, no risk situation.

If he is looking for another job in the NHL (and he probably will) I think it's a no brainer for the Jets to sign him on a 2-way league min. deal. Holden said everything right: Jets like to do those kind of deals and there isn't really anything you can loose. A couple of weeks ago I already said that I'm sure we will see him again on Jets ice.

According to some people in the know, Fehr signed a deal with a post-lockout opt-out, so he should be available to sign immediately after the lockout. The way he is playing and the fact that he is in game shape should get him a look somewhere.

I personally would like to see the Jets give him another shot. There is no doubt in my mind that he is better than Machacek and it looks to me that Mach is in line to be the Jets 12th or 13th skater. I really don't know where they would play him though. The Jets top 9 spots are all but spoken for (Ladd, Little, Wheeler, Olli, Kane, Burmi, Welly, Antro, Poni), that leaves the 4th line and Slater, Thorburn, Mittens and Machacek are already under contract. Waiving Thor and adding Fehr would be the best option, but I don't see it happening.

Tobias happy to be home:

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/bre...183808711.html

PS Toby was my favorite Jet heading into last season, but his struggles and the big battle we had between pro and anti Enstrom posters here tainted him a bit for me.

Him saying Winnipeg is his home, he missed his teammates, and that he did not want to take a roster spot away from a player in Europe, coupled with him refusing to talk about the lockout really renewed my love for him. What a total class act.

I knew that Enstrom was huge for us on the blue line early last year. He was pretty much the solid pivot that they could revolve the pairings around until Bogo got his legs underneath him. I was upset to see him break his collarbone last October, but it gave Bogo more time to shine. Those two I wouldn't trade for anything.

I agree! I think our defense will still end up being the jewel of this roster. Bogosian will only get better, Enstrom will bounce back, and Byfuglien has shown a promising improvement in his own end, and his offense speaks for itself. Replace Hainsey, make sure that Clitsome and Stuart get the minutes and assignments they should and I think our D corps tops the SE and helps us win.

jeez, Kane is sorta the definition of "clueless." I think we're in for a constant stream of this sort of thing from him over the next few years...
