Brandon Pirri: another one similar to latta but more how he can adjust to the NHL pace.
Mikael Backlund: all around playmaker.
Austin Watson: Everyone from the knights knows what he is capable of.
Marcus Kruger: another playmaker who can play all F and is a leader from what I recall.
Kyle Beach: You know him, you hate him but he has 8 goals in the AHL after last year injury.
Marc Mcneil: another one who can be well for us.
Boone Jenner: Bigg's partner in OHL, possible we can rob him?
Derrick Brassard: Behind Johansen, Dubinsky and Anisimov now?
Philip Danault: Love this guy, such a boss of a player, he is a guy you want when you want to build a winner.

And with that...im done. for now. These are ofc the younger guys who are centers or players i'd like, name some you think that can be realistically acquired.
I really like your list, all players that I like and would like to have in our organisation.

Doubt the Jackets would move him given that they traded away there other top 6 C options last year (Carter and Vermette)

Dubinsky is a LW now, as far as I know.

Regardless, I don't want Brassard. He is terrible.

Considering Dubinsky is much better on the wing, Brassard is still the best centre out of that group.

No thanks to Brassard. If we're looking for a centre Burke will get a proven #1, not some 25 year old who has never hit 50 points.

I don't think Burke's interested in trading for a very young centre prospect that's recently been drafted. I think he wants to get a guy who fits the team age wise and who's been in the league for a couple of years.

I could see Burke going after Brassard, Colin Wilson or even possibly Josh Bailey.

Brassard(25) like you said is most likely getting pushed down the depth chart and hasn't been able to replicate or expand on his 2008-2009 shortened season. Maybe we can get him for cheaper than people think.

Colin Wilson(23), I heard was in Trotz's doghouse near the end of last season and in the playoffs. He's still continuing to improve every year but maybe he's available for the right price.

Josh Bailey(23) is a talented centre who's behind Tavares obviously and was behind Nielsen last year. He's got the talent to be a good playmaker and has been working the PK on the Islanders last year. Not even sure if he's available but could be a good fit.

I'd love to have Wilson join the team but I think any of these centres could do well given the chance.
I don't think any of those players really fit Burke's MO. Burke tends to go after players that have shown their potential before, but for some reason or another have fallen out of favor with their respective teams.

Lupul - Had previously hit 20 goals three times, 50 points twice, and had already experienced a break season (with Philly before getting hurt). Then because of injuries, he was receiving time that wasn't given him a full oppurtunity to display his talents, and yet he was still playing at a 20 goal, 45ish point pace with Anaheim. Needed time more than a change of scenery (anytime he's played over 16 minutes a game on average, he's been successful).

Phaneuf - One of the more successful rookie seasons for a dman in recent NHL history, being one of a small number of dman in NHL history to hit 20 goals in their rookie season, then had no less than 47 points in his next three years. Got comfortable and needed a change of scenery.

JVR - The player on the list who showed the least potential. However in the 2009 playoffs he arguably showed his dominant potential. However he wasn't getting time on Philly and he was struggling with injuries. Burke went after him.

Wilson and Bailey don't fit that MO. They have potential but I don't think they would be targets. None of them have the sort of potential that Burke usually targets and none of them arguably fits a need. They are all 2nd line level potential players IMO. The Leafs are past the point of gambling on players. The players I believe Burke will target, are players that arguably have shown their potential already, in at least somewhat significant ways. Brassard might fit this.

Like Luongo. He fits the MO perfectly. Team that's down on him for some reason or another. Yet can still be very effective.

Getzlaf would very much fit this MO. If this season happens, and Getzlaf continues to struggle, he would fit it massively. Even with him being a free agent (Murray faced with losing him on the free agent market, and yet struggling to get full value because of recent struggles, turns to buddy Burke and strikes a deal).

Vinny Lecavalier would fit this if his contract wasn't so huge.

Now hear me out here

Okay so I know with the lockout this year most of the players in this deal are on expiring contracts, but if the lockout were to end and the NHL to have a shortened season what do you think of this deal? The Leafs would rid themselves of a couple contracts they would rather not see in Leaf uniforms ever again (Conolly, Komiserek), gain a few experienced veterans who can play and contribute to both ends of the ice, a reliable veteran back-up, and first-crack at signing up Clarkson heading into 2013 Free-Agency...
Now of course a couple of Minor League Prospects/Picks would be needed to help even things out on both sides

Lupul($4.25M) 2013 UFA
Macarthur($3.25M) 2013 UFA
Conolly($4.75M) 2013 UFA
Kadri($1.72M) 2013 RFA
Bozak($1.5M) 2013 UFA
Gunnarsson($1.325M) 2013 RFA
Komisarek($4.5M) 2014 UFA
Scrivens($612.5K) 2014 UFA
Total ($21,907,500)

FOR

Zajac($3,887,500) 2013 UFA
Clarkson($2,666,667) 2013 UFA
Elias($6M) 2013 UFA
Tallinder($3,375,000) 2014 UFA
Volchenkov($4.25M) 2016 UFA
Hedberg($1.4M) 2013 UFA
Total ($21,579,176)

Essentially the deal is a cash-dump for the New Jersey Devils as well as allowing them to try and get younger and gain more depth in every position on the fly. As well as giving the Devils a possible stop-gap in net between Brodeur and Wedgewood (Top Goalie Prospect currently*)

Old NJD Cap: $56,083,333
Old TOR Cap: $63,485,833
New NJD Cap: $56,411,657
New TOR Cap: $63,157,509
Cap Difference +/-: $328,324

New TOR Roster
1. JVR Zajac Kessel
2. Kulimen Grabovski Clarkson
3. Elias Mcclement Frattin
4. Komarov/? Steckle Brown/Orr
Ex. Lombardi

1. Phaneuf Gardiner
2. Volchenkov Franson
3. Liles Tallinder
(Holzer)

1. Reimer
2. Hedberg

New NJD Roster
1. Kovalchuk Henrique Lupul
2. MacArthur Bozak Zubrus
3. Kadri Conolly Sykora
4. Gionta Carter Bernier
Ex. Janssen, Barch

1. Gunnarsson Zidlicky
2. Greene Larsson
3. Salvador Komiserek
(Fayne)

1. Brodeur
2. Scrivens

so basically the Leafs improve their team in areas of concern to push for the playoffs
Devils basically begin their rebuild on the fly (doubtful they would have repeated to the finals if there was a season) as well as leaving both teams in a relatively good position cap wise for what could be an interesting 2013 Free Agency

As a Leafs fan, I'd say no.

All of NJ's players are UFA's. I'd be more interested in retaining Kadri and Gunnersson for the future, re-signing Lupul [which I think he will but not if we trade him] and then trying to go after guys like Zajac and Clarkson in the summer.

Under your scenario it's just far too much risk [valuation aside] for a team that isn't going to win the cup. We need to keep our valuable guys and move forward.

Nice thought process though, looks like you put a lot of time into it.

With that being said, if TOR and NJ hook up for a trade I'd love to see the Leafs get a guy like Adam Henrique. Loved watching him this year.

Would love a guy like Henrique as well, but doubtful the devils would be moving him anytime soon.

I'd take Komisarek at 4.5 over Volchenkov at 4.25. That guys is useless.

He is able to play in the center as well, so does Anisimov I believe. Although Anisimov can easily play on the left. However under the new coach who knows its a good possibility. I don't think the price will be high and people often forget this guy has quite the bit of skill, given the right environment I wouldn't be surprised if he explodes.

Good point and I agree. I think Luongo and Getzlaf both fit his MO.

I think the JVR trade was a bit more on hopeful potential (Unless you count his 7 goals in 11 games showing his true potential in the NHL) so I still think he could attempt to gamble on possible centres like Brassard and Wilson with that type of trade. Who knows though, always got to have a back up plan if Getzlaf resigns with the Ducks or signs somewhere else.
