Isn't that like... a stripper name?!

And I know it's Skyler, but I can't ****ing stand a name like that after breaking bad

LOL it's unisex. When it's on a girl, it's essentially a stripper name, one level more expensive than your "Candy" and "Ruby". On a guy, a Swede, it's not too bad.

I've always liked the name Cooper, don't know why.

Shared this story with J last night. Sorry for the bad formatting, it's copied straight out of a facebook chat

as you may or may not know, i'm (more so my dad) is quiet good personal friends with marian gaborik
he owns a hockey rink in slovakia. in his tiny home town of trencin, he built a million dollar rink, that has 100% free skating
during the offseason, he runs a hockey school there. with runs it, i mean, he literally gets on the ice, and plays with kids
now, he actually didt do it this year, since he didnt have an arm
but he still stayed there, and watched, and signed autographs etc.
now, the second thing is (i havent said the first yet), is that in the summer, he and his brother invited me to come for a week completely free (room paid for) and i even went to play tennis at his parents' house one day (just me and dad, privately)
that's pretty amazing
so how does it work for regular kids going there?
1000? 2000? 5000? dollars to play with gaborik for a week
nope. about 200 dollars, which is just to pay for a room to sleep in
the training (theres about a 1:3 kid to trainer ratio) is essentially free
often, other guys (chara, hossas, etc.) stop by and hang out
at night (EVERY NIGHT) local hockey teams use the rink to play adult hockey (rink is... free)
that's the end of my story. just wanted to share what an amazing guy he (and im assuming other guys) can be even away from the media

Yeah, that's a good story and not uncommon for a lot of these guys. Interestingly though, it seems a much greater percentage of european players that are set on giving back in that way. Not saying plenty of NAs don't do it, but virtually all of the euro guys (virtually, obviously not all of them do) either do this kind of stuff or participate in it from to time. But the NA guys do it a lot too. Hockey players tend to be a bit more down to earth in that regard, which is why this lockout is so mind boggling. At the same time, the newer generation of guys coming in, the guys who are 18-25 in the league (or on their way) seem to be a good deal more "bro"ish and obnoxious than guys who are a little older like Hossa and Gaborik, especially the NA ones.

Forget pretentious, they're just such stereotypical frat boys. The only difference is "the frat boy" has become a personality trend rather than an experience, so these kids who played juniors and never even went to college are still coming into the league, essentially, as frat boys with all the stupid fashion trends and lingo. It's amusing, to a degree, but while a lot of us did it in college FOR FUN, these guys seem like total airheads who, because they've really never set foot IN this thing called real life, have no idea the difference between the frat boy BS that we do in college for kicks and... real life. So they're just total "bros". Idiots.

The perfect young player is Gabriel Landeskog. Attitude, maturity, humbleness and sensibility.

Yes. And he has enough of that bro-ish-ness in him to be fun and be liked by all his teammates, but it doesn't dominate his personality like it does with most of these guys because he's a euro, IMO. Euro guy who comes over and plays NA juniors; learns all the lingo and trends with his NA bros, but still has that more humble, euro sensibility. That's just the reason, IMO. I know not all euros have that or anything, but I think it's the reason he's not just the same as most NA juniors bros.

Some, but DZ still has a lot of it. Playing in NY with guys like Lundqvist i the lockerroom and in the hotels should also force him to sophisticate a bit, compared to the bros who play in markets that don't really require as much polish for the social scene.
