Inspired by the Hull vs. Neely thread, who is the best of their time?
Sr. or Jr.? They didn't share Oates as a center but both played with excellent centers... Sr. with Mikita, Jr. with Oates, Gretzky a little while and some other guys.
Both were the most feared and prolific goal scorers of their time.
(I know they played in different eras and probably this has been done before...but there's this lockout thingie...)
Bobby was the better scorer and better player. But Brett was basically only goal scorer. In that sense Brett was better pure scorer since scoring goals was the only thing he could do. Bobby was much more than just scorer.
I still have to vote senior guy on this. Bobby led the league in goals for 7 times!? If he never goes to the WHA maybe even more.
My initial thought was that it was Brett Hull and goal scoring was the only thing he was better at, but I think I actually have to go with Bobby. Both have nearly identical NHL goals per game statistics (0.57 for Bobby, 0.58 for Brett), but Bobby played in a generally lower scoring era (although Brett played it some of the highest scoring and lowest scoring era so that's kinda tricky). Bobby lead the league in scoring 7 of 10 years, and had it not been for his time in the WHA it's entirely possible he could've been #2 all time in goals scored. I think at their peak Brett was still the better goal scorer, but overall I have to go with Bobby.

Also, Brett actually was a pure goal-scorer. As in he contributed nothing besides goal scoring, Bobby had both a physical and defensive game to go along with his legendary speed and scoring.
In terms of sheer short term peak, even adjusted, Bobby doesn't touch Brett for goal scoring (72, 86, 70 adjusted... 61, 78, 63) vs. (54, 52, 44 adjusted... 58, 57, 47).
Everything else though, including all around offense, goes to Bobby.

They're close if you factor in GP. Bobby's 58 and 57 adjusted goal seasons are in 65 and 66 games while Brett's are 61 in 80, 78 in 78 and 63 in 73.
Brett. It's hard to compare goal totals from different era's. Personally, when I compare the two, I think Brett played in an era with better goaltending and defense. He scored more NHL goals, so I voted for him.

Hull and Mikita did not play together at even strength, but they did on the PP.
Not saying Brett isn't an all time great goal scorer, but I don't see how you pick him here.
