Maybe his second depending on where Pyle was ranked when they fought.

And if he beats Condit he'd be beating arguably the #2 or 3 guy in the division right now, hard to move up any further than that in the division. I could see him possibly taking a fight against a Maia/Fitch as m9 suggested, but that's arguably a step back, and if his future plans aren't going to be in the 170 division where does that get him?

Personally I think he wants to avenge his loss to Condit and then move up, assuming GSP is to stay at 170.

Just rewatched Rory-Condit (it's on Youtube for those interested). A few takeaways. First, I know they don't score fights as a whole, but I'm actually glad it didn't go to decision because it likely would've been a draw, and there is absolutely zero question Condit clearly won that fight as a whole. He beat him up bad that 3rd round, and the first two rounds were pretty close to even. But that being said, the stoppage was even worse than I remembered. Rory was still defending and Condit had just temporarily buried his head in Rory's chest/shoulder. Also, Joe asked Rory about the stoppage and he said he was completely fine with it because he was getting his but whooped. That was admirable.

I don't even think it's arguable.

Jon Fitch is a scary fight because if it goes to decision, Jon Fitch will no doubt win that battle.

Patrick Cote vs Alessio Sakara rematch at UFC 158. Mike Goldberg just announced it on the prelims.

He also said, "much more on the UFC 158 card later tonight". Sounds like Dana might be making the GSP/Diaz fight official.

Yeah we won't see any Montreal fans whine about this card. GSP/Diaz Condit/MacDonald and now Hendricks/Ellenberger. Good WW stuff.

We already knew the first two, nice to see that one get added to the card as well. It's a risky move for Hendricks but I think it's the right decision. Having Hendricks on the card is also good in case Diaz does something stupid and can't fight.

He's too popular in Canada to have him not be on the card.

I understand they say this, but are the Canadian PP buys (are they even PPV?) less if he's fighting elsewhere? Or just preflight marketing and hype?

Montreal outsales any Vegas event out there. Plus like I've said multiple times, UFC knows Montreal people are huge boxing fans, where you can have a great main-event with a local, a crappy undercard and it will still sell tickets. This times though we get 3 real maincard fight, which is something we haven't had since UFC 97. Hopefully we don't get somebody like Bocek or Danzig to fill out the rest of it.

One that should hopefully make his UFC start is Steve Bosse, 2nd best canadian light-heavyweight in the world after Jimmo. Maybe Alex Garcia too, who knows.

I'm sorry, but please don't whine when you get title fight after title fight in Montreal. It'll be 4 years since we had a card in Columbus and Rampage/Jardine headlined that.

Is this a fact? The Vegas venues are much smaller than Montreal, especially when you consider the comp tickets in Vegas always being so high. I just assumed the gates were consistently better in Montreal.

You're right, the live gates are higher in Montreal. The Bell Centre holds more people than MGM Grand and having GSP or a title fight on every card helps as well. Did a quick search on MMAJunkie and it looks like Vegas still has the two highest gates overall (Silva/Sonnen 2 and Liddell/Ortiz 2) but Montreal usually brings in more money.

Well yes, total attendance will tend to be higher in an arena that hold's 20,000+ compared to a 14,000-15,000 seat arena, but the ticket prices in the Vegas arenas tend to be much higher, often leading to a higher overall gate price, which I assumed was the discussion. Yes, Montreal event's have brought in more of a gate than some Vegas events but to say "Montreal outsells any Vegas event" is wrong as I said.

Just for example, UFC 154, the long anticipated return of the local favorite pulled in a $3.1M live gate which is equal to or less than 4 of the last 5 events in Vegas, the only one it beat was Penn/Condit. By comparison Penn/Diaz, which had just over 10,000 in attendance pulled in $3.9M in live gate revenue.

Interesting. I had always kind of just glanced at the numbers and never given it much thought. Makes sense though, I think the cheapest seats in the house for the last show I was at in Vegas were like 130.

When I went to Lesnar/Carwin I think we got the 2nd cheapest tickets which were like $175(I think cheapest was about $125). But the weird thing is that apparently it only pulled in $2M or so despite having good attendance for a Vegas event. May have been a lot of comped tickets though.

Yeah the comp tickets get out of hand there, its pretty crazy. It was probably 40 percent comped if not more.
