I'm not sure how USA will fare this year. Not trying to be a debbie-downer, we have a few top guys, but as far as playing Canada, Sweden, Finland.. I just feel like it could be like last year again. But you never know, they could play like a team and have good chemistry, so hopefully they surprise me.

That really sucks for Noesen and Team USA. This kid rises to the occasion in big games. Had 15 pts in 7 games in the playoffs last year for Plymouth (OHL). Big loss for Team USA.

Huberdeau's QMJHL suspension would be over before Boxing Day. You can't ban players just because they were suspended before the tournament.

The precedent has been set here though so moving forward I would expect any CHL suspension that is still active once the tournament starts would make that player ineligible.

Will he be replaced, or will they go with what they have? And if so, who? Boucher?

I wonder if they'd take a gamble on Erne, now.

There will be no additional invites. The team will be constructed based on who is in camp right now.

You guys this Grimaldi will be a big contributing part of the team this year? Also what line do you think he will play on? Thanks.

Yeah, he will definitely be a go-to guy for USA. I have no idea about lines, but he's going to have to be a veteran presence on the team.

I don't like this Noesen decision. I somewhat understand it but I don't see why a suspension in a league should necessarily carry over to international play. What's the concern? That if he misses 5-6 OHL games because of the WJC that he was suspended for anyway that he would more or less be getting out of a good chunk of his suspension? Well, there's an easy fix to that. Simply don't count games missed due to being at the WJC as games as going towards the suspension! ie. if he misses 6 games for the WJC, those 6 games don't accrue towards his 10 game suspension - he still has to serve out the full suspension once he returns to the OHL. It's as simple as that IMO. An OHL suspension should only apply to OHL games.

That's how I assumed it worked. If not, it seems like a simple rule modification to make.

Canadian here. I don't like the suspension carrying over to the WJCs. Feel bad for the guy.

The 10 games isn't debatable in terms of OHL suspension policy though. That to me isn't the question.

American here.

Glad the IIF made this call.

Guys have to learn to be more respectful to each other and decisions like this show other players that your actions carry consequences that reach beyond your current situation.

Players will see this, and if it prevents one future incident, then the decision was 1000% worth it.

Sorry that the kid can't play, but the right decision.

I hope they planned for this possibility with their invites, then.

Anyone know the lines they are running at practice aside from this one?

JT Miller, the only American player at camp to have AHL experience, was w/ Rocco Grimaldi & John Gaudreau at today's camp. Good line.

Damn, I wanted to see Noesen play for US. He was the only player on the team that I was going to cheer for.

Very Well said!!! This applies to all these players, they need to play tough but with respect of others and not try running/injuring people out of games. These types of injuries need to stop.

It's the right decision-for the OHL. This should have no bearing on his eligibility to participate in IIHF events.

Alex Galchenyuk skated mostly with Vince Trocheck and Riley Barber at today's U.S. morning session in Greenburgh.

Trocheck is seemingly only a center, which means USA is considering playing Galchenuyk on the wing just like Beaulieu does in Sarnia, which is beyond frustrating as a Habs fan.

I wanted Galchenyuk to centre a line with gaudreau and Grimaldi on the wings.

Barber-Trocheck-Galchenyuk will be a fun line to watch.

The Miller and the Midgets line, I really didn't expect them to play together will be interesting to watch.

Also curious if I was USA Hockey I would say Noesen made the team and then ask the OHL to count any American game he misses as part of his suspension after all rules are rules and don't they respect it the other way around as well?

I am very upset about not having Noesen in this tournament. I understand what he did in the OHL was bad, but I dont believe this kid should be punished to play in an international tournament held outside of North America...

His suspension should be for the OHL..period. This is a big big loss for the US as he was a likely top 6 player and leader for this team..

damn.

I kind of had some of my lines correct with what USA Hockey is doing so far.

I had Barber playing on the top line with Galchenyuk, only Trocheck centering them is a bit different.

I also had Miller and Grimaldi together from their USNDP days...I like Miller being a bigger body for both Grimaldi and Gaudreau...hope he can keep up with those 2..
