Well I got bored earlier today, and when I get bored I decide to experiment with things. Because of the ongoing lockout, I figured what better way to play GM mode than by injecting 30 European teams into the mix. The league structure is as follows:
Northern Conference (West)
Northwest Divison = Elitserien
Pacific Division = SM-Liiga
Central Division = 6th place regular season finisher from each of the five leagues.
Southern Conference (East)
Southeast Division = National League (Swiss)
Atlantic Division = Deutsche Eishockey Liga
Northeast Division = Extraliga Ledního Hokeje
I randomly picked a team and so I will be playing as the Kloten Flyers of the NLA, playing in the southeast division. If I'm not feeling too lazy I'll even write up some reports.

That's actually a cool idea, I may try that out. Did you put all the NHLers into the free agency or your just using those teams' rosters?

Yes. It happened because EA decided to "update" the European rosters with copies of the players who signed overseas during the lockout. In my European GM, those NHLers are still there because I left the rosters as is, I wanted a few "superstars" in the league. The way to fix this would be to remove those players from the roster using the player movement option under my NHL 13 (I think) off of the main menu.
I had to leave the salary cap on because otherwise teams would have infinite money, and that annoys the living hell out of me.
When you started the league at the entry draft date, did you remember to reselect "current" rosters instead of "draft day default" after making the change to entry draft rosters?
One more thing, I selected classic draft picks because I'm not sure if the authentic draft picks are tied to the NHL team, or whatever team is playing in that slot. Some info on that would be appreciated.

It was also a season of surprises for the Hawks. Standout rookies Brandon Saad and Jeremy Morin were expected to make the jump to the NHL this season, but to the surprise of all, both were held back in favor of promoting 2008 1st round pick Kyle Beach to a 3rd line assignment next to the gritty two way center Dave Bollland. Also returning to the Hawks was youngster Andrew Shaw, a 5th round standout that surprised everyone during his 2011-2012 draft year. Shaw lined up next to Bolland and Bolland to form one of the toughest 3rd lines in the league. Their smothering forecheck was successful in forcing opponents to make. mistakes in their own end all season long as Bolland and Shaw led the team in takeaway and shorthanded goals.
Other roster surprises saw the Blackhawks not only address their hole at 2C via trade, but saw the team inundated with two-way centers. Centers Mike Fisher, Brandon Sutter, and Adam Henrique all joined the squad this year and turned the Blackhawks forward corps into a truly frightening mix of high scoring, hard hitting, and defensively sound lines that frustrated opposing scorers.

The first round of the playoffs saw some intense rivalries re-ignited as the defending champion Kings faced the Vancouver Canucks, ultimately prevailing in 6 games but with serious injuries to key plays on the roster, including Brown, Penner, and Doughty. The Blackhawks faced longtime original six rival Detroit Red Wings. Despite fantastic performances by the Red Wings forwards, the Wings were swept as their defenders simply could not withstand the dynamite Hawks offense. Duncan Keith returned to his Norris form, posting 3 goals and 4 assist in 4 games, narrowly leading the Conn Smythe race ahead of Viktor Stalberg (3G, 3a).
The second round saw Keith's dominance continue as the the Hawks faced off against another Central Division rival, the St. Louis Blues. The Hawks prevailed in six hard fought games as the tough Blues forwards and defense sought to grind down the Hawks top forwards. Keith would finish the series with impressive numbers, bringing his totals to 10gp, 3G, 9a, 12 pts to retain his lead for the Conn Smythe race. Viktor Stalberg slowed somewhat, posting 1g,1a in the second round series. Elite forwards Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane both made things interesting, however, as Sharp posted a hat trick in game 3 to lift the Hawks to a 3-1 victory, and Patrick Kane posted a spectacular 4 goal night in a 4-2 win to clinch the series. Sharp now stands at 10gp, 7g, 4a, 11 pts while Kane stands at 10gp 8g, 3a, 11 pts , both narrowly trailing Keith.
The 3rd round is upon the Hawks who look to face the Anaheim Ducks who won in a surprising upset of the LA Kings. The Ducks forwards have struggled mightily with injuries and production, and have relied heavily on hot goaltender Jonas Hiller to see them this far. Things are looking grim for the Ducks, however, as Marian Hossa's return from an 8 week absence due to hip injury draws near. Michael Frolik has been contributing somewhat in Hossa's absence, but the Hawks are eagerly awaiting the return of their regular season - leading powerplay scorer, as well as some of the fantastic chemistry between Sharp and Hossa.
In the east, Steven Stamkos has been on a tear, leading the league in scoring, and leading his team to face off against the Pittsburg Penguins. Despite entering the season as a cup favorite, the Penguins have struggled this season as All-Star goaltender has been beset by injuries. This will be a battle of the scoring centers as Stamkos faces off against Pens superstars Crosby and Malkin.
So this may be old information by this point but I CBA to go look back through various threads.
In NHL 12 you could abuse the system a bit by offering teams trades you know opposing teams wouldn't accept to raise their "relationship" with your team. I always used this to unlock all of the "Have a Good/Great relationship with x number of teams" tasks since it did not use to lower your overall GM reputation
In NHL 13 this same process tended to have the same results with relationships but it would lower your GM reputation. Today while messing around I figured out that if you offer a team a player that is really old and makes a lot of money (example: Sergei Gonchar) for any player with lower value in the red then not only does it raise your relationship score but it also vastly increases your GM reputation. They'll decline the trade each time complaining it is not worth taking on that kind of money while boosting your reputation about 4 points per offer. Just need to add any random draft pick each different time you offer them the deal.
Not as helpful this year since improving assistant coach doesn't help to train better players so there is less of a rush for task points. Figured I'd mention it though in case people were not aware.
BLUE JACKETS SHUT OUT OILERS 3-0 FOR FIRST WIN

The Blue Jackets (1-1-1) made their way from Denver to Edmonton overnight, coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to the Avalanche (2-0-1) at the Pepsi Center and hungry for the win they were so close to. They found themselves up 3-0 in the first period after some rather dicey goals allowed by newly-acquired Martin Brodeur, but the cagey vet would settle in and help the young Avs get the victory by slamming the door shut the rest of the way.
At Rexall Place, the Edmonton Oilers (1-2-0) found themselves in penalty trouble early and often and, although they would kill the first 3 penalties, it eventually caught up to them with goals on the 4th and 5ths powerplays from Cam Atkinson and Derick Brassard. Steve Mason stopped all 24 Oilers shots en route to his first goose egg of the year.
Columbus defenseman David Savard left the game early in the first period after blocking a Ryan Whitney point shot. Early reports indicate that his leg is broken and he's expected to miss significant time.
The Jackets have the next couple of nights off before they host the St. Louis Blues in their home opener Saturday night.

Haha, that's what I've been doing since I had to absorb Redden's contract. Can't ship him anywhere so I just offer to teams for late picks, then they tell me it's a good trade but they simply can't afford to take on the cap. Really easy to restore reputation/relationships that way.

On another note, I finally saw a 5 star player drafted. I went looking to trade for a goalie, so I was checking what was available on various teams (2017) and Boston have this insane goalie, 19 or 20, rated 90 with 5 stars. I offered them some sick players and they were just saying no to everything. I picked up Subban instead! Hopefully he pans out, he's only 75 with I think 4 stars, aged 23-24 now. Boston had like 8 goalies in the system so I figured they weren't really playing him... I ran him as #1 on the Griffins all year. Looking forward to seeing if he's past 80.

BLUE JACKETS RECALL JOHANSEN, LETESTU; DEMOTE BOLL, DORSETT

After a frustrating start to the season with a 1-3-3 record, Blue Jackets GM Mackenzie decided to make some roster changes this morning recalling forwards Ryan Johansen and Mark Letestu and sending forwards Jared Boll and Derek Dorsett to AHL affiliate Springfield.
"I felt we needed some more skill in the lineup," he said in an interview. "There's no doubt in my mind [Boll and Dorsett] will be back up in the future, but right now, it looks like we need that extra scoring touch that Johansen and Letestu will give us."
Derek Mackenzie will make his return against Dallas (2-3-2) on Tuesday night after missing last night's 3-1 loss to Pittsburgh (4-2-0) with an upper-body injury. Adrian Aucoin is making progress in his recovery from an abdominal strain and is expected to be back into the line-up within the next 2 weeks while David Savard is unlikely to return to the line-up before Christmas due to a broken leg.

I'm in 2014 in my GM with Buffalo. I need a first line upgrade big time. Who should I go after? My centers are set. Grigorenko is a 79, Girgensons I created, he is an 82, and Kevin Sundher jumped to an 80. But I need some wing help, as my best winger is Kunitz. I tried to get both Pavelski and Kessel in free agency but I couldnt get either, after I offered both 7 million a year for 5+ years.
I need like an 85 overall winger. Anyone with any ideas?
Finally figured out a way to get the NHLers outta of the Euro leagues, just reset the rosters to "predraft". I replaced the 30 NHL teams with 10 teams from the SEL, SM-Liga and Extraligua and started at the draft. Took out all the 67 + overall players from the AHL teams and all the 64+ free agents, but for some reason the free agents were all still there. Couldn't figure out how to take teams prospects off of their original team so what ever europeen the prospects NHL team now belong to that team. Played a few games(superstar) and it's really fun cause you can actually play your top prospects on top lines in the NHL(which usually helps growth the best). My team is a bit below average, here's my lineup:

De Haan(69)-Katic(69)

Traded the 4th overall pick and a few others for the 2nd overall pick(Murray)
Now 80 overall players are like 90 overall players(rare, ask for a lot of money...). Also the GM mode realized that low 70s is the average player now and switch every player's type(like top 6 D, 1st line, etc..) so De Haan, who is only a 69, is listed as a top 6 defenseman now.
It's kinda like Fifa manager, if you take a team from England's league 2(or whatever it's called).
So after messing around with trades for awhile I finally figured out a way to get around something that was really annoying in this game. I found it really stupid that if I tried to trade for a good "white" player even if the team accepted the "Trades that lowered your rep" would increase. Well it seems that as long as you out weigh/balance whatever you want with "red" items then the computer will relent and not tack on the negative message to your stats page. Going back to the computer you can mix and match "green" and "white" assets to get them to accept.
Not sure if anyone else is really bothered that much by negatives in the GM Tracker, but if so, then hopefully this helps.
