Well yes, he was the better player between the two in 2010-2011. Last year it's hard to compare as Gally missed all but 2 regular season games. Players develop at different speeds, so who would have known how Gally would have played last year..I guess we'll never know.

Also important to note that Yakupov is 8 months older than Gally. If you really wanted to track development then you could look back at where Yakupov was 8 months ago vs. Gally now in terms of ppg.

That they are both very good players and I think that while you (or whoever) have a decent argument, I would disagree that Galchenyuk has shown enough to pass Yakupov as a prospect.

Thats realllly reaching for an argument. Development years is more important, not how many days older someone is

Pre injury Yakupov was playing at a better rate than current Galyenchuk. So the injury argument goes both ways

Obviously, you have never seen them play in person. Please leave your "video" arm chair comments to yourself. Both of them are great players and much better than your video clips reveal.

This is a debate that will be settled in the NHL ( funny a bit like Malkin and Ovetchkin)

I'm so stoked to have a player of Gally's caliber on the Habs. Yakupov and Gally are both tremendous prospects and we'll see what happens once they're both in the NHL.

9 posts and you are already chirping people? What the hell?

Firstly, have you ever seen them play in person, because I know more then a few on here have and have seen both yakupov and gally. If someone's suggesting he looks better then yakupov I will listen. As well is it really that difficult to be civil with someone?

Both are exceptional young players, and I'm sure Montreal is thrilled to have Galchenyuk as much as Edmonton is thrilled to have Yakupov. Once they get to the NHL, probably next year, we will see how they play and determine who is better.

Gally is the more complete player IMO. However, Yakupov has better speed and if he reaches his potential will constantly score more goals than Gally.

Gally will have more assist than Yak though.

Is this really how we judge players? Speed, goals and assists.

This is HF, they don't actually articulate what makes a player good around here, people just regurgitate stats

Galchenyuk is a stud. Going to suck having to watch him play against my beloved Maple Leafs 7+ times per season.

Like a lot of Canadiens fans, the WJC will be the first chance I have to see him play (besides youtube clips etc). Through the help of some of our very knowledgable posters (That, CrimsonSkorpion, HankyZetts, HABS2DCUP etc) we been able to follow his progress from his slow start of the season to where he's at right now. Very excited to see him play, especially against most of the worlds best junior players. His progression this year is quite amazing, especially after his slow start probably due to his injury and the fact he hadn't played very much hockey in the last year.

Games 1-11: 4 goals, 10 assists= 1.27 PPG

Games 12-22: 9 goals, 12 assists= 1.91 PPG

Games 23-33: 14 goals, 12 assists= 2.36 PPG

One thing about Russians, they have some pretty awesome names. Especially if you start to understand them.

Ovechkin's family for example, must really have loved sheep.

Galchenyuk was recently slotted on the wing with Trochek at center and Riley Barber on the wing.

Other way around actually, someone mentioned that the lines were Trochek-Galchenyuk-Barber in the habs thread

They switched the line up for the afternoon practice.
