I bet 1$ that Gally will play FOWARD for the Canadiens lol

Gally is able to play all positions:
Alex Galchenyuk, Left Wing, Chicago Young Americans
Alex Galchenyuk, Center or Right Wing, Sarnia

Relax all

Galchenyuk becoming a quality #1 center is the most crucial element to this team becoming a contender someday. Without him becoming that, we're doomed to more 6th place at best hockey because it sure as heck won't be DD or Eller.

If he becomes a wing full time, it's not good. Period.

So yes, at some point I want to see him play some center this season because it ain't happening in Sarnia with Beaulieu running ship and the chemistry that line has. Going head-to-head with the likes of RNH, Strome, Grigorenko, Khoklachev, Barkov and Lindholm (if USA is to face FIN or SWE) would be great for him.
Seriously lol. Can you tell me the lottery numbers too?

The man can transition seamlessly between the two positions, I think you're over stating the importance of him playing center this tournament.

I'm going to have to agree with Marc here. A number 1 centre is vital, and I'd be rather disappointed if he became a winger... well unless we get Barkov/Lindholm to centre him .

Versatility is a good thing though. I can't imagine him being forced into the centre role right away. Hopefully he'll be brought up on the wing and learn how to play better defensively, especially 5 on 5. Similar to what Boston has done with Tyler Seguin.

Honestly, Galchenyuk is one of the most versatile players I have ever seen at the OHL level. He's played centre, left wing, and right wing this year, and looked great at all the positions. He has played in corner, in front of the net, the point, half-wall, and high slot on the power play at times this year. He's been extremely effective in every area and is arguably the biggest reason why Sarnia's power play is in the top 3. He is great in his own zone on the PK, and plays the point aggressively, but yet positions himself well. On the ice he can score from any where. Literally. He controls the centre of the ice, the boards, and he's a pretty good net presence as well. He's played with a revolving door of line mates, especially early on in the season, and turned all of them into point producers.

The history of championship teams in the NHL is enough to validate my comment.

We could be looking at a situation where is Galchenyuk not playing center for a long period of time if he's not centering a line at the WJC. We are talking years here.

He's been on the wing since mid-October or so... chances are strong he finishes the year on the wing in Sarnia and/or he's possibly a winger as a NHL rookie like many here want, whenever that is (this year or next season). So already, that's possibly 2 seasons.

Throw in barely playing it last year due to injury...and you are looking at potentially 3 seasons of not playing center regularly.

I can just see the conversation in 2-3 years being ''He's doing really well on the wing, why should we move him to center now? He's barely played it recently anyway.''

i have a friend who is an amateur scout - and again, it's just his opinion..but he thinks Gally will be better than Huberdeau in the pros

look homeys, when you're all over the ice like that, it don't matta if you were centering the faceoff if you still backcheck like one.

Agreed - does anyone ever talk/care about what position Stamkos plays?

I don't really think the whole center thing is a big deal because Montreal staff has said time and time again they see him as a center and him getting experience at wing is just an added bonus. But personally yes I'd rather he played center at WJC, I just wouldn't be upset if he didn't

starting Gally on RW on Pleky's line would be terrific! Pleky can mentor him while you can then move Gionta down to the third line and actually give Eller a real scoring winger.

possible lines:

Patches --- DD ---- Cole
Bourque ---- Pleky ---- Gally
Moen ---- Eller --- Gionta
Prust --- White ---- Armstrong

Gomez, TBD

While we're at it:

PK --- Georges
Emelin --- Markov
Diaz --- Boullion
Weber

I like it....

I see you hired a hit man to take care of Kaberle. Did it cost you much?

Alex Galchenyuk named OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Sarnia Sting forward Alex Galchenyuk is the OHL Player of the Week after leading the league with eight points in two games including five goals and three assists and a league-high plus-minus rating of plus-6 for the week ending December 16.

Galchenyuk led the West Division leading Sting to a pair of wins before the Winter Break beginning with a 4-2 victory over the Guelph Storm on Friday night.  In that contest he was named second star with two goals including one on the power play along with one assist helping set-up former Player of the Week Charles Sarault’s game-winner in the final minute of the second period.  On Saturday night Galchenyuk picked up his second career five-point game as part of a 7-4 win over the Kingston Frontenacs.  The game’s first star scored three goals for the second time this season including one shorthanded marker before netting his 27th of the season which ties him for the OHL lead.  He also assisted on a pair of goals including Reid Boucher’s game-winner midway through the second period.… read more

What are your guesses as to how many points Gally will get during the WJC?

I'll say 9 (6 goals 3 assists)... let hear your guesses and we'll see who was the closest once she's in the books.

Can't wait to see him on that stage! The point total might depend on how Team USA structures their PP... is it possible one of Grimaldi/Galchenyuk/Miller/Gaudreau plays D 5v4?

Oh god, all that in only 2 games?

It's coming to the point where we absolutely need a season so he gets a better competition level in the NHL. The OHL won't be that good of an option for him, other than the playoffs he might get.

Alex Galchenyuk skated mostly with Vince Trocheck and Riley Barber at today's U.S. morning session in Greenburgh.

Gally most likely on the wing for Team USA as Trocheck is only a center it seems...

The other offensive line had Miller with Grimaldi and Gaudreau.

God, if Gally doesn't play center in this tournament...this sucks....
Holy ****!! I was so scared when I read your ''Bad news guys''...
I feared the worst...an injury to our Galchenyuk during practice or scrimmage,etc... PHEW that it wasn't that!!!!!!! Double PHEW!! (I'm just so happy that Galchenyuk's knee is fully rehabilitated...thanks to his amazing/strong work ethic and amazing/great attitude...).

But, thanks for the report anyway...I also want Galchenyuk to be our Habs' center... been waiting for decades for a center as skilled/talented/tall/big as Galchenyuk (definite all-star #1 center potential...I'm sure he'll be our center, but he may start out as a winger for our Habs first...maybe with Pleks or Eller? maybe with DD? but eventually...he better be our center...).

I want Galchenyuk as centre in the long term, but honestly, he's just way too good not to adapt himself if he doesn't play centre from here to his first NHL game as our 1st line centre.

I'm just happy we drafted him for a start. I'll watch all of team USA's games for the first time.

Galchenyuk should see some AHL action with the Bulldogs in March? April? No? Whenever the Sarnia Sting's season/playoffs will be over. So that's good...Galchy goes on to the next level (pro level with 2013 Bulldogs...and then 2013-2014 with our Habs...if there's a season next season!).

The NHL season looks like a major mess...owners, players...they're all too hard-headed and way too ****ing greedy. Once someone makes millions...they just want more and more and more...
**** the fans that give them their millions...they couldn't care less about the fans.

I actually hope there will be no NHL next season as well (not really! but)...this way the players will hopefully be punished as well and not just the fans. It's always the fans that pay the price. And they're going to do the same thing in 5-6 years...**** the fans with another lockout (I don't want to hear about another lockout for 20-30 years). Right now I'm just looking forward to the WJC tournament and more Bulldogs' hockey.

Didn't Giroux also start out on the wing until Philly moved Richards and Carter? Montreal will do the same with Gally when they deem that the value of Pleks, DD or Eller will be at their highest. Let's believe in Bergevin in finding the right timing and the right centre to move. A lot can happen in the 2-3 years before Galchenyuk is ready to be an offensive yet defensively responsible center.

Hasn't most game recaps showed that Galchenyuk is "uninterested", or "lazy" at some point when it comes to defense? There's a long way to go before he can be relied on as a Center in the NHL. He doesn't necessarily have to play Center to learn how to play good defense. He needs to be eased in.

I think that having Therrien as a head coach might not be so bad after all. People sometimes forget that over all his flaws with Pittsburgh he was still the coach that introduced Crosby and Malkin to the NHL. He should find a spot for Gally on his top line either as a winger or a center. My gut feeling would be to try him out as a winger and introduced him to center if needed. Then the year after make it a full transition (when we figure out if we keep our current top centers in Plekanec, Desharnais and Eller) at center.

He isn't backchecking like a centre though. He's actually pretty casual at coming back to defend, which is why even if he takes a faceoff, he always transitions back to wing.
