You know how I can tell? During this current lockout I need to SEEK OUT sports talk of any kind.

Sports is something that happens in other cities I guess.
Am I missing something here? I agree for the some sports, its a hard draw, but I had Renegades season tickets every year they were here, we had a crappy team, yet there were always right around 20K in the crowd, right until the end..

I've heard so many people say that the Renegades left because of fan support, which was not the case...

As per Brad Watters, there were about 4,000 comps per game.

I'm a HUGE CFL fan myself, but if they averaged 20-something thousand of real paid attendance, they'd still be with us...

After Bernie Glieberman & Eric Tillman left, nobody was left to own or run the team, that's why they folded.

Apparently, the Ottawa Rough Riders' first mascot in 1898 was a bulldog.

THE OTTAWA BULLDOGS.
They folded because the ONLY person interested in buying the team was the devil...

That was because...(drum roll) they were hemorrhaging money...Why?...(drum roll), lack of true support (ie: PAYING CUSTOMERS).

The Original ownership never had the deep pockets to sustain losing a lot of money. They certainly never imaged losing the amount of money they did on a year-to-year basis. That's why they planned on bolting after hosting the Grey Cup.

The only owner willing to stay on was Bill Smith, but he needed help and wasn't about to get it based on the financial outlook of the team.

If they were close to making money, SOMEONE other than Bernie and Lonie would have bought the team...

Ummm... no it was because they had to pay the highest rent in the league in order to play in Frank Clair Stadium.

Their attendance was actually quite average for a CFL team.

Yes, the paper numbers were good, but true paying customers were not.
That's the truth.

I'd support that. Can call them the 'Dogs' for short which would work perfectly alongside Hamilton.

Sentinels, Brigadiers, Highlanders.

Take your pick, the rest sound like trash.

Hunt was on the radio today said the name will be something that has an interesting story with Ottawa. When asked if it would be the Rush he answered does the Rush have an interesting story with Ottawa.

i somewhat suspect this highlanders name to have more traction right now than we may think. and i do like it.

That was weird... but the Team1200 guys have been pimping RUSH so much... unless it was just as a feeler... who knows? I prefer Highlanders over Rush

Lets put the team in its likely place.

We have the Senators, the lowly CFL team can be the Ottawa Plebians.

I wonder if they will be the Ottawa Bulldogs if that was the original mascot.

In honour of the Sens fans at last yrs playoffs who literally took her Sens jersey off to try on a Rangers jersey for a group of New Yorkers, I am thinking the Ottawa Turncoats

I have a sneaking suspicion that the team will be named "Red Barons".

Why do i think this?

1- The Red Baron was shot down by someone from the Ottawa area. (Carelton Place)
2- They mentioned that the name had an "interesting" tie to Ottawa.
3- They mentioned that out of 1000 entries, no one suggested the name spot on, but some were close. (Ottawa Barons was suggested)
4- It starts with R.

I'm not saying it's a great name, just a hunch.

"The Ottawa Rush" is just about the single most bush-league name I can come up with. WTF is this, Junior Varsity Touch Football?

ANYTHING is better than "Rush". Dear god, why not just name them the "Ottawa XTREEM", or the "Ottawa Sno-Warriorz"...

If we ever get an AFL team, the Rush would be a good name. Not for the CFL.

I really don't get it. Ottawa is hardly a rush inducing town. Are these people on coke?
