I believe Justin Braun is, and will be, better than Demers by a significant margin. Demers has more offensive potential, but Braun is so much better defensively. Demers is expendable because of Braun and the development of other defensemen like Acolatse, Abelthauser, Tennyson, and DeMelo. I would do Hagelin or Clutterbuck easily.
No way , Braun is good don't me wrong, but Demers is better in all aspects , he played for Shaw last
year Shaw didn"t like him period, watched both Demers and Braun this year, Braun is just to soft saw
that last year during St-Louis, Demers is second to Karlsson in finland scoring wise , has more minutes played etc...personally I would"t either......but if i was forced , (see ya Braun)
You're probably right but I'm just baffled how he can be so good in the AHL but never good enough to be an NHL player.
The difference between being an NHL player vs. an AHL all-star can be small.. sometimes all a player needs is a real chance to show what they can do in the NHL, in Connelly's case he's a 5'9" (listed at 5'11" - no chance) Dman, who's a good but not great skater.
Even with the Suter signing, Minnesota is still quite weak on defense. With Spurgeon and Gilbert as the only legitmate d-men on the right side, I think we could benefit from acquiring another right handed d-man, something San Jose actually has a decent amount of. These teams seem to be good trading partners, having already made some very significant trades with each other over the last couple years, with Jimmy Sheppard being the biggest obviously.
With Boyle and Burns taking up the 1st and 2nd pairing, it seems that Braun and Demers are destined to do battle over who gets that bottom pairing spot. Now maybe you Shark fans are higher on Demers than Braun, but what would it take to get Demers in a Wild uniform?
Wild prospects that are off limits are Granlund, Brodin, and Coyle (not that it would make sense to trade him back to San Jose less than a year after acquiring him anyway).
While I like Demers, I don't necessarily agree with the perceived need of a RD (assuming he plays on the right side). We have Gilbert and Spurgeon now, Dumba coming up in a few years and Brodin, while left-handed, actually plays regularly on the right side. If anything, I'd rather go after a LD to play on the 2nd pairing and give Scandella softer minutes.
Braun is a solid 3rd paring guy i think demers can be a a good 2nd liner for us if he got to play. What line will he be on though with Stuart back now?

He and Braun will probably play #6a/b with Murray as their partner (assuming the season isn't cancelled). Shark's top 4 will be Boyle/Burns/Vlasic/Stuart.
So, let me get this straight, the Wild "need" promising young Dmen and we are going to get that by trading a promising young Dman named Scandella?
I have no idea where the "trade Scandella" faction of Wild fans came from. I think it was a combination of looking for holdover scapegoat for last year (Schultz, Zanon, Zidlicky were gone, Gilbert too new, Spurgeon too impressive, and Stoner/Falk too insignficant, so Scandella it was) and because some had it in their minds that Scandella would instantly fill the hole left by Burns.
But Scandella has generally played well for the Wild and he's going to be an awesome Dman for them for a long while.
If you want another Dman, fine, something like Demers+ for Clutterbuck+ makes sense because the Wild probably aren't going to be able to afford Clutterbuck's raise next summer.
Leafs have some expendable D if Clutterbuck is coming back.
Liles / Gunnar + pick/prospect
Gunnar would be a nice player to have. I believe he is underrated as he can play 2nd pairing minutes constantly without looking bad. There is only one problem, however: We already have one Gunnarsson.

How is Acolatse doing in Worcester? I see he's racking up the points, but how is his defensive game coming along?
Take out the draft pick and Handzus and it's a deal. Make it a lower draft pick than a 2nd if we still need to add.
San Jose politely says no. Not interested in trading Demers unless it's for a significant upgrade or overpayment on your part (like Demers+ for Setoguchi and Clutterbuck, which is obviously a no from your standpoint).

SJ might not be interested in that but this Sharks fan certainly is.
Demers has value but the Sharks deal from a position of strength and fill holes in their organization.
Very good 3rd line player... check
Decent draft pick to help fill prospect depth... check
Dumping of Handzus and his salary... check

But most Sharks fans, including myself, aren't.
1. You don't trade a #3 upside for a 3rd liner.
2. Draft picks are overrated. The Sharks still have all their picks in 2013 from what I remember, and their current prospect pool isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be (and a 2nd won't suddenly make it good). A 2nd and Clutterbuck isn't worth the price of giving up a valuable piece of the Sharks D-core.
3. You don't need to dump Handzus' contract unless you plan on replacing him with someone else. The Sharks aren't in any cap trouble yet.

As much as I don't like Handzus, it doesn't make any sense to trade him unless the Sharks need the cap space. They currently have 5m in cap space even with Handzus. You're better off hoping he could rebound, or making him the 13th forward instead of replacing him with nothing.
