I don't follow baseball much but I like the one game playoff. If you don't want to be in it, win more games. I like the regular season meaning a lot, especially a long one like baseball.
I don't follow it as much as I use to (largely due to the the length of the season) and I for one thing that if they want to add more teams to the playoff structure they need to shorten the season and make the "wild card" round 3 games and the division round 7 along with the LCS and WS can stay 7.
Drop ~20 games off the season and end earlier in October and don't worry as much about the really cold weather you do now in the north.

I hope nobody does them the favor of taking ARod off their hands (and, to lesser extents, Granderson and Teixeira).
can't believe that arod is still owed $100+ million, and about $28 million next season alone. the yankees are going to be footing that bill regardless of whether or not he's on the team. no one is going to take that contract without a serious subsidy.
That whole Marlins organization is a joke. Loria's a ****ing parasite.
Good for Toronto snagging a great pitcher in Josh Johnson, but I'm not that impressed with the rest of that package. I guess that doesn't really matter that much though since Toronto didn't give up much at all. I hope they can pull a Baltimore and be a playoff contender next year.

Jays just did it again, getting R A Dickey from the Mets for D'Arnaud, Buck and Syndergaard.
Going from zero pitching after all their injuries last year to adding 3 potential 200+ innings hurlers in Dickey, Johnson and Buerhle it has to feel good being a Jays fan. The 'oh crap' factor has to have just been ratcheted up a notch or two in Boston and New York.

As a Red Sox guy, yes.
Frankly, I think the Red Sox and Yankees are the worst two teams in the AL East this year.
Maybe its just me but I'd have rather moved Arencibia instead or D'Arnaud. Syndergaard is iffy as you never know if a pitcher is going to pan out.
Well, of course you would have. But the Mets correctly had zero interest in the guy's career .275 OBP, or his complete inability to throw out base-stealers. Arencibia was always a non-starter for the Mets. It had to be D'Arnaud.

As a Yankees fan, I can agree. Either of our teams have crap management right now, and the Yankees particularly have no hitting. Home runs or nothing. The worst type of hitting.

That strategy has paid off a few regular seasons in a row. It's hurt them in the playoffs, but it's been fine for the regular season.

Well, the Yankees (and Red Sox to an extent) are totally shedding payroll because they don't want to pay the new luxury tax rates under the new CBA. 50 cents on the dollar penalties are pretty damn steep. If they can get under the cap for just one season it reverts back to 17.5% for the first re-offense, so that's probably pretty appealing to them.
