No season and only one ball = high chance you'll finish in the bottom half.

Is Michal Neuvirth worth a 1st and is he better then Dubie is debatable, Oilers pass. I would think most Oilers fans would know that the Oilers have made the decision to go with Devan Dubnyk, cannot understand the reasoning of the OP to trade for another questionable #1 goalie.

Would you still make the trade if there is a season?

You are talking about the Oilers pick though, they would have 3 balls in the lottery if the old system was used... so the chances are the pick would be in the top 12 or so.

Nope, they have only 1 ball if they use the system last used.

Though, it's still good for 1st overall because it's Edmonton

if edmonton didnt have stu picking maybe... but no way we trade a first for neuvrith... Dubnyk will do decent enough and hopefully will do really well

They won the lottery last year so I think they would have only one ball.

hey, it's not our fault that we didn't finish last overall but still got the 1st overall pick!

If there's no season,I don't see how he isn't worth the 1st rounder.

In my mind it's worth it to trade the first round pick (20-30) for a goalie like Neuvirth.

There is no big need for a Goalie in EDM.. We gave Dubnyk a 3 yr contract with big money for a reason.

Also, EDM can still get a top 10 pick even if there is no season.

There will be plenty of backup goalies available via free agency if the whole season gets cancelled.

Not until Holtby proves he can handle the NHL load over a full season + playoffs. Unless there's a season.

Sure. I'd take a late 1st in a good draft for him.

Well, I think in this situation we'd be trading him at the draft, so we'd still have free agency to find a veteran back up. It's not a great list, but I'd be willing to gamble a bit on Holtby for a 1st in this draft.

Seriously.

Now that we have our scouting in order and constantly need deadline/long term upgrades first rounders are much more valuable to us.

If the draft position is known to be in the first half of the 1st round, sure. If it's a drawing (in which Edmonton is likely a later pick) or known to be a later pick, I would abstain for now.

Pretty much every UFA goaltender is either over the hill or garbage. While some of the 35+ guys could fill in for Holtby for a season or two, if Holtby falters and we don't have Neuvirth we could be in trouble. Grubauer is still only proven in the ECHL, and while I personally believe he will reach the NHL, he still has a ways to go.

I'd rather keep the pick and take Fucale if management actually thinks we need a goalie. Think it's more likely that they grab Tristan Jarry in the 3rd or 4th round though.

If I was going to give up a first for a goalie it would be for Schneider.

Would you bet against the Oilers lottery luck?! I wouldn't. Just ask Scott Howson!
