He's got the ''Brunette-Lappy-Hendricks-McClement'' let go written all over him.

Yea, he really does. I couldn't agree more with that pattern. Though I think Bruno was for team speed reasons, and McClement from the sounds of it was his own decision.

Unfortunately, OB also has the fact that they just resigned/signed three guys, and have a fourth (Hejda) that aren't really offensive stalwarts, so re-signing a purely defensive guy like him doesn't make too much sense.

If O'Byrne walks, I'll be more pissed than I was with the others. But like I brought up awhile back, I completely agree in seeing him cut loose.

But hey, if Hunwick can get re-signed maybe O'Byrne will be too? Think positively.

Maybe he'll be traded and we can get something for him?

To Buf:
R. Obyrne, RD UFA

To Col:
R. Regehr, LD UFA

Two impending UFAs, Regehr didn't seem to fit in Buffalo being reduced to 5th on the team depth chart in ice time. At 32-33, it would be surprising if he was already 'finished' unless he's got ongoing injuries I'm not aware of.

Don't know if it's fair, or if picks would be needed to even it out or whatever but looking at the Sabres defense, I think a guy like O'Byrne fits their team a lot better.

But the guy I worry about most is EJ - 24 years old now with 2 seasons of development missed already.
Has anyone thought about what this whole thing could look like if they do decertify and all contracts are null and void?

I don't think it makes too much sense to resign another defensive defenseman to a multi year deal at this point, whether it's O'Byrne or Regehr. I wish they would have not felt panicked to sign Zanon, and then could have more options.

It would take several years for it to reach that stage, with trials and appeals. This work stoppage will have played itself out one way or another before that happens.

It's I'm an all star and I know it look!

Couldn't be happier the WJC is starting soon. In 4 days the pre tourney and 9 days for the actual tournament. Finally, something actual hockey to talk about.

Sucks that hockey Canada put RNH on the team.

Yea, from my limited reading on it, it seems as though a court would decide whether the league locking it's players out is legal or not. If they decide it is illegal, then the lockout would be lifted, and presumably the owners would have to start paying the players again, which would just put pressure on them to sign a deal.

Apparently the argument is that it is unlawful for competitors to get together and fix a market place, and in essence the 30 team owners are competitors and get together to place restrictions like salary cap, The CBA protects the league from anti trust lawsuits, but may not do so if the PA dissolves the union.

Pretty good article on it here.

Are we talking about the same player? I know some people may not agree how effective O'Byrne is, but that's an awfully strong reaction.

I personally think he plays his role perfectly, and his size gives him an extra element to contain power forwards that other pure defensive defenseman don't have.

Yep, and it'll be ugly. I don't see it likely that Kroenke will open the wallet above the bare minimum to put a team on the ice if there's no CBA anymore. It'll lead to the end of NHL hockey in Colorado... again.

Bruno was a 20 goal and 60 point player for the avs. Since he left nobody has consistently hit 60 points, not saying he would have for sure but you never know.

Lappy, Hendricks and Jay maybe have been role players but they sure as hell are better than all the role players the avs have now.

Also dmitri, you have done an amazing job posting pics and gifs the past couple of days. Keep it up!

It's amazing what playing on Joe Sakic's line can do to a grinder.

Ah, yes the good ol product of line mates theory. Too bad he was a 20 goal scorer and 60 point player before and after he was with the avs.
