I'm really getting sick and tired of no Leafs players getting credit and it always being brushed off as the product of other players. Yet these same players get treated like trash elsewhere, it just seems like people praise Leafs players when it's convenient to make another one look bad.

Lupul only scored a lot because of Kessel.
Kessel only scored a lot because of Wilson's sytem.
Phaneuf only had great defensive metrics because of Gunnarsson.
Grabovski only had great defensive metrics because of Kulemin.
Macarthur and Kulemin only score because of Grabovski.

It's seriously ridiculous. Obviously chemistry with linemates can play a role in a player's play but not to the extent suggested on hf. If Kessel can carry Lupul to the 7th best points per game in the NHL than he should easily be considered a top 10 forward. Hell, even Neal didn't score at the rate playing with Malkin that Lupul did playing with Kessel. As much as I love Kessel, he is not better than Malkin, he is not on the same planet as Malkin. Same goes with Gunnarsson, apparently he's the only reason the pylon Dion Phaneuf fared great in most defensive metrics this past season, yet he wasn't voted a top 20 defensive defensemen and if you go over to the trades board he's treated like 'spare parts'. Surely to god if Gunnarsson could just carry just an awful defensemen like Phaneuf to perform the way he did, he'd be more valuable. Kessel was definitely the driving force of the Leafs offense, but he did not carry Lupul to 67 points in 66 games, he is just not that good, I wish he was.

Sorry for the off-topic rant but I had to get that off my chest. It's extremely frustrating seeing "Player A is only good because of Player B" all the time and then elsewhere people act like Player B is garbage.

Kovy, but too bad he don't play LW anymore. Or at least not in the NHL, and even with Parise gone he still probably won't.

Clearly, the answer is the guy who's leading the league in virtual scoring.

Ovechkin AINEC

Not even in Ovechkins worst season could Kovalchuk score more goals than him.

I think you are right. Even when Parise and IK played on separated lines, Kovalchuk was still a right winger. I don't recall him having a single shift back to the Left once he moved to the opposite wing. With Deboer, I see IK as definitive RWer and he's just fine playing there. Look at this pass on the 1st goal, typical IK on the RW.
