I would recommend Brandon Sanderson's books. I enjoyed the Mistborn Trilogy a lot. (there's another book in the series and another coming). I also liked the Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. I also like his new Lightbringer book series as well. Weeks is a bit more graphic, curses and is a bit more gritty than others.
I like the Wheel of Time, and I've read it, but for many, it's plodding and very lost. If you want, read the first, it's the best in a lot of respects, and then decide if you want to give the time commitment. Sanderson's doing the last books in the Wheel of Time, so it's a lot better now, but it's tough.
I also like the Kingkiller and First Blade series by two different authors.
Must also say, I really enjoyed the Throne of the Crescent Moon. It's a Middle Eastern style Fantasy book. Lot of different ideas there. It's something new with less standard stuff.
Soooooo......The Hobbit. MUCH better than I expected and I think better than the original 3 movies.
I was highly skeptical heading into it too. Also saw it at Tyson's in their HFR (High Frame Rate) Imax/3D theater. It was the most realistic looking movie ever.
Overall, very pleasantly surprised. GO SEE IT IN HFR!!!

Holy hell are you going to Siberia for your honeymoon?
Thailand, Cambodia, and the Maldives.
Dulles-Dubai-Bangkok on the way over. Maldives-Dubai-Dulles on the way back. Which reminds me, I've got an additional 8-12 hours of flight time combined from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai to Siem Reap, Siem Reap to Bangkok, and Bangkok to the Maldives within that trip. So yeah, lots of time on an airplane for me to read.
Appreciate the suggestions from everyone.
I've read all of Sanderson's and Abercrombie's stuff and am a huge fan. I've also read the Kingkiller Chronicle, and liked that as well.
I like the Weeks recommendation, and may have to add that to the list.
WRT Wheel of Time, how does it compare to the Malazan Book of the Fallen in terms of plodding/slow/over-wrought scope? That's really the only fantasy series I've picked up that I disliked (sorry usiel).

First two books of wheel of time series are the best, imho, before the books after which felt like they would have a good place as a series on the Lifetime channel.
First four books of the Malazan series I thought were good but man it jumped the shark after.
