I guess the TSN crew were right in comparing Scott Laughton to Mike Richards. He was recently suspended 10 games by the OHL for "a blindside hit to the head."

I can't make my own topic, but I found this youtube video and it just makes me miss penguins hockey that much more. an awesome video capturing our run to the Stanley Cup in 2009.

I'll be curious to see what happens once (if) the season opens up in regards to possible trades and such. GM's have had a lot of extra time to talk, and with a drop in cap coming, I'm sure a lot will be willing to move some pieces sooner rather than later.

Max Talbot has had his jersey retired by the Gatineau Olympiques. He led them to back-to-back QMJHL titles in 2003 and '04, and was the league's playoff MVP both times.

So, Dupuis did a commercial for Pure Hockey ... has anyone else seen it? Thought it was pretty funny ... he may have a future in acting

Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis
Tangradi-Malkin-Neal
Cooke-Sutter-TK
Glass-Vitale-Adams

Martin-Letang
Orpik-Niskanen
Strait-Engelland
Bortuzzo

I can take one positive away from the lockout thus far, it's calmed me down after the free agent frenzy this summer. I for one would like to see what that team with a top 6 forward addition can do come postseason.

That defense seems more of the same.

Although if this season is written off that lineup could be without Cooke, Dupuis (unlikely), and everybody's fav Adams

Looking ahead at the 2013/14 season, there are some interesting free agents. Im sure some of these guys will be resigned, but there are options that may be of interest to the Pens.

Iginla, Jarome » R CGY 35 $7,000,000 2013 (UFA)
Perry, Corey » R ANA 27 $5,325,000 2013 (UFA)
Lupul, Joffrey » L TOR 29 $4,250,000 2013 (UFA
Morrow, Brenden » L DAL 33 $4,100,000 2013 (UFA)
Horton, Nathan » R BOS 27 $4,000,000 2013 (UFA)
Clowe, Ryane » L SAN 30 $3,625,000 2013 (UFA)
Gagne, Simon » L LAK 32 $3,500,000 2013 (UFA)
Ryder, Michael » R DAL 32 $3,500,000 2013 (UFA)

Perry, IMO would be a close 2nd to Parise in being a perfect winger for Crosby but will cost a fortune. More realistically, I could see a guy like Morrow being brought in on a 1 or 2 year deal for Kunitz money

There are really only a couple good fits / realistic fits on that list.

Iggy - would be great to have him for 2-3 years on a lower hit, but he'll retire a Flame.
Perry - can't see Anaheim letting him go either, esp if they trade Ryan. Hit will be high; going to get paid big.
Lupul - not a bad idea. If he can play well with Kessel, he can play well with Sid. Young, relatively cheap.
Morrow - pass. Not worth it unless we can get him for a lower hit at his age and production.
Horton - would be a good fit but not with recurring concussion problems. Sid and Letang are enough.
Clowe - would be a great fit, and should have a reasonable hit in peak of his career. Best option here.
Gagne - big pass. Too beat up, although his cap hit (assuming he could play a full season) isn't bad.
Ryder - has the skills but I don't see him fitting into this system very well. Likely to get overpaid.

IF the season is cancelled and there is no new CBA in place until July, all these players would just become UFA without the old team being able to re-sign them first. If there is a season, my guess is 80% of theses players are already signed.

Getzlaf could play wing

He should be added to the list

Haha. 0.0% chance Ryan Getzlaf is not a Duck after his contract comes up for renewal. And there's no way we could afford him in any case.

I know a lot of Pens fans may be done with him, but do you guys think Jaromir Jagr should be a free agent target next offseason if he plays another year?

He's 40 (41 in February), but he still has hands, he's not fast, but not slow either, he has excellent puck handling skills and work ethic. So if he's interested, do you guys think he can help the team?

If the Penguins plan on Bennett making the team, it could be a huge help for him to have a Penguins legendary winger be his mentor. (Teach him about better puck handling and passing) and I know he will have guys like Crosby, Malkin, etc. be his mentor. But I think having Jagr as a mentor and linemate could help Bennett become a better hockey player.

The Jagr ship has sailed. There was bad blood after he signed in Philly. Plus, as we have all seen, he runs for the most money. Even after loving Philly, he left for more coin. It's just not going to happen.

Yeah I know it won't happen. He would cost too much money for what he brings.

I'd be fine with Jagr. I wouldn't doubt that the Pens wanted Bennett to model his game after Jagr (only his game, I'd rather Bennett not become a gambling addict ). But seriously, he still has hands and a really nice shot, so I wouldn't mind in the least for him to come back and mentor Bennett while getting some goals along Crosby. However, that being said, I don't think Jagr is the kind of player that we need. He is still extremely immature, even in the twilight of his career, and we really don't need that right now. I'd much rather see us go after Iggy or Clowe, preferably the latter mainly for cost.

I hate this lockout. And today i got reminded of it when Bobby Ryan set up Kopitar for a sure goal, but somehow chet pickard robbed him with the save of the season. And this is in the swedish tier 2 league. Somethins seriously wrong...

Tangradi needs a shot. I'll take him over Jagr.

ya, I don't want some vet who may or may not work out. If we are blocking Tangradi, it should be with a sure thing. Doesn't need to be a superstar, but someone who is pretty darn certain to be a good fit.
