Does anyone think something is going to happen on Friday? I'm not talking about a comet, I'm talking about radicals having planned on doing something that day. That's my concern.

No, not really... Although wouldn't surprise me if someone started shooting up a building or tried to set off some bombs.

There will be idiots who commit suicide. Some may commit some murders. I also anticipate a lot of looting.

It will be the most annoying day in social media history, and I will take part in the joke-making.

no. if we're lucky darwin will intervene and the idiots obsessed with that date will decided to drink a bunch of toxic koolaid and we'll be rid of them.

Topic? i want to tap in to the young male board members and get some xmas present advice. of my chicago relatives, i can't figure out what to get for 2 male cousins - one is 23 and the other one is either 15 or 16 (i should know that!). i'm thinking about $50 for each gift - if i have to go higher - as much as $100 or so - i don't care. they strike me as "normal" for guys their age. i'm happy to go with gift cards - wouldn't mind tossing in something wrapped that they can "open". don't want to pick anything for them that might be sensitive (i.e. don't want to try to select a video game or clothing - something they may not like).

they should be easy to please...i, no joke, gave the older one a $50 gift card for chipotle a couple of years ago and after saying it was a "great gift" when he opened it, he went to the trouble to take me aside later make sure i knew that even though he told everyone their gift was a "great gift" when he opened it, he felt that the chipotle gift card was the very best gift he'd received that xmas

I know people think it's lame to give cash, but seriously, just give people cash if you can't decide on a gift card. Obviously, a gift card appears to show that one put more thought into a gift, however, it limits the person who is receiving it. You can do anything with cash. I just got $25 to Wendy's and Chick-Fil-A for my birthday. I mean, that's badass, but I don't need $50 for fast food. I'd prefer $50 cash, and there's a good chance some of that fifty dollars would be put toward some food while I'm out and about.

i'm fine giving them cash. they're old enough that it's not like their parents care what i give them...and, leaving aside fast food expenditures, i'm broad minded enough that i actually don't care if they spend my cash on booze.

the self-serving aspect i didn't mention is i have it on authority that i'm their favourite cousin. while this makes no difference to my day-to-day life, i'm happy to continue with love so want them to like my xmas gift

how much cash is acceptable? the 23 yr old graduated from college in june and is now working in a property manager's office and the 15 yr old is in grade 10. we're not talking about a massive spread $ here - so i don't mind tossing in extra $ to seem generous.

like i said...i'd like to protect my "favourite cousin" status

Buy an umbrella. Tie single dollar bills to string and attach to umbrella. When he opens it up it will be raining money.

I'd say 75 is really good, 100 is more than enough. You'll add on to your legacy as favorite either way.

now i'm thinking things through more...my female cousins i was going to just toss them a jcrew or sephora gift card (i'm female, and i know they like those stores so there's no drama).

but now i'm thinking should i give my female cousins gift cards and the male cousins cash?

i'm thinking i'll just show cash in xmas cards and give it to them?

the female cousins are a Sr. in high school and a Soph. in college (i'm not worried about buying the two girls gifts they'd like...but i don't want to give them cards and the boys cash...that would be weird).

i think just give them cash...to be honest, when i was that age i would want cash, too...i would have spent it on booze and ciggies - but i would have enjoyed it

I'm currently 1.5 footed after having a really big plantar's wart removed. It was like the size of a marble.

I'm expecting an average, run of the mill natural disaster that happens a couple dozen times a year and then the fools that believe that Mayan nonsense will point and claim that that's what they were predicting.

Did you guys hear about the inmates who escaped from that downtown prison with the narrow windows? I wonder how they widened the window, and how the **** did no one notice it happening?

Username - the 23 year old drink beer much? One of the best presents I ever got was from my fiance years ago, that was just a bunch of different kinds of beers. At that time, all I drank was the generic macro crap, but it was still awesome. She literally just threw it in a 3-4 gallon trash can with a couple cigars, some fluff, and drew a really cool caricature of a drunk me on the side of it.

I'm not a worry bird, but wherever you guys go to school, work, go out in your free time, I would just say be a hair more conscious tomorrow. There is a 99.9 percent chance nothing happens to you tomorrow, but I can guarantee that there will be some oddities going on in the country tomorrow from idiots who think the world will end.

Yep, agreed 100%. Whether it is by intention to do harm or not, the potential is as high as it could possibly be for a given date. It's not something to laugh about or take lightly. The idea that the World is going to explode from a comet, sure, go ahead and laugh. However, I don't trust people.

Some kid threatened to shoot up our school. It also happened at a few other schools. Douchenozzle got suspended. I may just take my math quiz and GTFO tomorrow. Convenient excuse to start winter break earlier.
