Kane isn't sitting too well in the media right now. At a time when the game is shut down because billionaires are fighting with millionaires, when employees of NHL teams have taken huge cuts in pay, and past NHL veterans aren't collecting their pensions... Kane goes and does something like this.

Wanna place wagers on the time the picture is removed from twitter?

I thought NHL players were underpaid and treated like cattle?

What a pathetic photo...still trying to pretend he's in a rap video.

I'd love to see the reaction to this photo of business owners, concessions workers and anyone else who relies on the NHL to make a living. Such a disgrace.

I stand by all the things I said about him earlier about his character. I met him a handful of times back in Atlanta and he just came off as cocky and stupid.

Apparently a low hockey IQ translates into real life.

Yes. Kane is rich, but if they blame Kane for the lockout, they are silly.

This was definitely a poor PR move and I understand why the PA would be mad, but I don't understand the fan outrage. We already know that NHLers are overpaid, so what. He didn't do anything illegal and he didn't hurt anyone. Boo hoo. Boo hoo. Boo hoo.

I agree.

Dumb move, no denying that. But it's not as if we didn't know Kane had enough money to pretend it was a telephone...we might not have THOUGHT of that but it's obvious the kids getting paid

Stupid and insensitive, but I don't get the outrage.

Not sure when I was representing the fan base. I was pointing out the fault towards the people who are actually taking a monetary hit from the lockout.

not to put words in anyone's mouth but i'd go on the assumption the second part of that post was not directed at you but at the general fan outrage (as heard on TSN this morning)

Perhaps you don't understand the outrage because there is none. It is a silly move that is drawing a lot of attention given the lockout. People are talking about it of course, but: outrage?

Or is it that I don't plow deep enough into the depths of the internet to find the outrage.

perhaps outrage is preemptive. I just feel like i've been hear before and know where it's headed. Hopefully i'm wrong?

Just realized those are hundreds. That's an expensive night.

Of course the Free Press is jumping all over it. I don't see the issue. We know players are overpaid and we know the PA cries for pity are ridiculous. There's nothing surprising. Even the "what about the arena workers who are laid off?" complaints are misplaced - that's the lockout, not Kane having money. Him flashing cash is in poor taste because flashing cash is always in poor taste. Anyone who connects that with the lockout must have really misunderstood the lockout prior to this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the lockout due to the differences between the players and the league? The players are in the most general sense half of the problem. It's just disrespectful to those who are taking a financial hit cause of the lockout. If this picture was taken while the NHL season was going on it would just result in an article saying how much of an idiot Kane is, but this isn't the case.

Oh whatever guys. He's 21. This is as stupid as people getting on Patrick Kane for having a party in the off season.

He's not playing right now, why should we care what he does in his spare time. I can count the amount of stupid pictures I took when I was partying with my friends when I was 21.

And of course he's cocky Lynk. I would be too if I was making fat cash and walked like a god among men because I'm a hockey player in Winnipeg. Yes it would it give me an ego.

I wish he involved himself in the process...but he's having some fun Vegas. Leave the kid be.

My only issue is that sweatsuit. God...dress with some class.

Time for me to go on a wild tangent!

Another form of celebrity is the serial killer. Do we need to see a pretend knife in one of their hands for a photo op? How about someone who just got busted for a DUI, taking pics with a beer behind the wheel? How about Obama holding a remote control pretending to bomb children? I know those are crimes, but it's the lack of class and arrogance that makes me sick. Nobody likes a bragger IMO.

P.S I'm sure someone will make some type of excuse for this type of pathetic behaviour.

yeah yeah yeah, he's just a kid havin a good time. I get that. My problem isn't really with whats in the pic, its the fact that he posts stuff like that on twitter. He's either too stupid to realize it might be a problem, or he knows and just doesn't care. In either case, it shows a pretty poor character on his part. I think that sort of stuff carries over into the locker room and the way he interacts with coaches and staff. If he isn't willing to examine his choices for the time it would take to say "hmmm, should I or should I not post this pic of me holding two fat wads of cash in Vegas while we're in the midst of a contentious negotiation on twitter?" then how does he respond when the coaches suggest he maybe examine some aspect of his game? Does he just do what he wants or does he listen?

There is definitely outrage. Not much here, but I took a beating on Twitter today. Lots of people saying he needs to be traded again.

Why does he need to excuse his behaviour?

he's 21. And he's acting his age. I have tons of dumb photos of me doing stupid **** when I was 21.

He's holding a wad of cash that he probably won in the casino, and unlike Theo Fleury, was smart enough to not stick it in his suitcase when he flies home. He's excited that he won, so he's taking a pic of him being a baller. Course...his dress is unacceptable.

And he wona bunch of cash...he's not a serial killer. thats a bit of a stretch.

EK is who he is and has been since he was 15 in Vancouver, itís just we get to share his charm with the world via twitter today . TNSE and his teammates will roll their eyes (well maybe not the Haines who must want to kill him) because this is the exact guy they know all too well.

From a Jets business perspective this photo doesn't change anything, he has always been a dbag but he's our 20 year old 30 goal scoring dbag. I have one and only one fear and that is the $30 million gets him soft and lazy like a boxer who has won his title and he loses his edge. We are always rolling the dice on long term deals with guys of questionable character. Notice how the Avs did a two year deal with Dutch taking the wait and see approach to a similar asset. Kane has never struck me as the lazy type but he has never had $30 million before and we better prey he doesnít go Jamarcus Russell on us.

On a side note it looks like Russell will be joining a long list of NFL players (70%) who will go broke in their life time. Itís not hard to pi55 away $40 million

Why do we hold him to a higher standard then we do ourselves? As I've said...I have alot of dumb pictures of myself on facebook.

I'd be a lot more concerned if he was like 25 and doing this. But he's not. He's a talented kid who knows he's talented.

I laughed when I saw the photo, but realized some would make it into something big.

Sure, this was a dumb PR move and nobody likes a bragger, but I really don't care if Kane brags so long as he scores goals. They are athletes, not our friends. Not sure how a stack of cash is more offensive than Bogo tweeting a picture of a new pickup truck or his new house. It is their money, they can spend it as they wish.
