Eh, not that I was expecting anything, but Fehr really wasn't to blame here.

They called the meeting, they called the mediators, and the NHL pretty much said "Our last offer is the only offer we're going to make. Take it or leave it". Not really a whole lot one can mediate if one side is refusing to budge.

Of course, since the NHL made it clear that this was their last offer last week, Fehr IS to blame for calling a pointless meeting and getting the hopes up of those that still have any.

The very definition of frustration is the reality that the players have lost more income for the 04-05 lockout and the 12-13 lockout than they will EVER earn in percentage points, "making whole", "rollbacks", or any other such ******** sticking points of this negotiation. The fact that teams are actually financially in better shape due to not playing games is a depletion of leverage for the ENTIRE union, not just the players that play for those teams.

A good negotiation gets you terms better than were offered initially. A bad negotiations ruins faith on both sides and ruins the company. For an activity that is so dependent upon fan support to create these ungodly budget numbers they are projecting, we certainly have no voice in the conversation. This is like watching an election debate in which you ultimately never get to vote.

I can say with the utmost confidence that this is the last lockout that my fandom will endure. I don't care if it's next year, the year after, or ten years down the line when the next CBA gets signed if it ever does. I will no longer support the tantrum. I have already written this season away as totally lost and have all but stopped following it unless by accident.

True. I couldn't even watch the whole thing. I heard that before and thought that was Lil Bow Wow's song from the movie "Like Mike". I guess I was wrong.

We have until January 10th-15th until the whole season is cancelled. How did the draft work last time? Are we going to pick around 8th this year if the season does get cancelled?

Basically all the teams are put in a weighted lottery, every team gets a ball but some get more then one. It's based on the number of times a team has made the playoffs the last 3 years and the number of #1 picks the team has had (via lottery) the past 3 years. We're one of the ones that gets 3.

Personally I want to see Columbus get the #1 pick, someone out west that's usually good but ends up coming short with the #2 (Dallas?), and us at #3.

If prefer the Canes get the #1 pick, but that's just me.

would always be nice.

Columbus just ALWAYS takes top spot for me on the #1 after last year though. We'll be a good competitive team without MacKinnon as long as PK is willing to spend to get/keep talent... the Jackets on the other hand...

Agreed. Seth Jones wouldn't be a terrible consolation prize either...

Dave, you're the draft expert of the boards, do you see Drouin making an NHL roster next year? How about Barkov?

Personally I want to see what any of the eligibles can show me at the WJC this year. I don't hold a bad showing against a prospect since it's a tournament dominated by 19 year olds and for the most part these kids are 17. But, at least heading into the tournament, here's how I'd rank them:

1 - C Nathan MacKinnon
2 - D Seth Jones
3 - C Elias Lindholm
4 - C Sean Monohan
5 - C Sasha Barkov
6 - LW Jonathan Drouin
7 - D Rasmus Ristolainen
8 - C Curtis Lazar
9 - LW Hunter Shinkaruk
10 - LW Kerby Rychel

Sounds like a reasonable list. What makes you put Monohan above Barkov? Anything in particular?

Nothing in particular, just trying to think about how the team might have their board set up. Barkov's producing in a mens league, I just haven't seen much of him. There are a TON of players in Sweden and Finland that I haven't gotten a read on yet that have a ton of upward potential. Lindholm's the only one I have so much as seen highlights of regularly to be honest.

Ah, okay. I didn't know how much/how closely you'd been following the prospects this year. I've just based on impressions on the prospects board, which can be hit or miss most of the time.

Either way, three balls in the lottery FTW.

But we'll still finish whatever's equivalent to 9th in the East, I don't care if it's impossible/nearly impossible...it'll happen.*cry*

Yeah don't get me wrong on Barkov, the guy's been productive in what's the 3rd or 4th best league in the world behind the NHL and KHL (possibly SEL, possibly better, not gonna be the guy to fight that battle). But the prospect boards, despite the great information you can get there, are also filled with posters that will pimp the crap out of (insert nationality here)s at every turn, and a fair share that do nothing more then talk out their ass. A lot of the better prospect posters don't tend to be overly boisterous either, IE: X-Sharkie was a rather quiet poster despite a pretty solid post count, he didn't go out there making outlandish claims... and he was an absolute goldmine for info about US prospects. Now he's an amateur scout for the Jets after being hired away from his spot as Player Personnel Director for the Chicago Steel.

Ahh, boo. I have tickets to the RBC Charity game in Toronto and for some reason, I had it in my head that Skins was going to be there because isn't he staying in Toronto for the season? Pretty depressed he's not on the lineup.

What exactly is he doing these days? Anyone have news?

Top 5 guys in this coming draft are very strong so if we manage to get a top 5 pick then we'll be getting a good player. Personally i like Barkov. Kid is a tank and seems like hes NHL ready.
