Theo with the OT winner. Nice to see him have some success without Strome and Ritchie.

Listened to the game, Theoret is playing center while Strome's away.

Corey Pronman's thoughts concerning Pokka in his recent article about WJC Team Finland:

Quote:
Pokka has been excellent this season, logging a ton of ice time for his pro team. Pokka is a plus thinker who moves the puck well on the powerplay, and tends to play a calm, mistake-free game. His skating is below average, though.

He can improve his skating, but even then, "mistake free game" means he's already where he should be when the offense is coming at him. Which means a good defenseman.

Exactly. If he's already that effective defensively on the bigger ice with skating deficiencies, he shouldn't have a problem on the smaller even if his skating doesn't improve drastically. Heady players are always effective despite their weaknesses, but the Isles would be smart to bring him over in a year or two to work on his skating to make him that much better.

Reinhart, Pokka, and Pelech were all solid picks and even if Somerby, Graham, Leduc, and Bischoff all flop the draft will be a success if the former three make the show.

I did not like the Pokka pick at the time. I wanted Finn, Pelech,Thrower,Aberg(f),Frk(f)' Bystrom, and Severson all ahead of Pokka. Obviously it's still early and we don't know what any of these 18 yr olds will be for another few years down the line. But if Pokka shows the high IQ for the position at this early of an age than that is a great start. Hopefully he works on his skating.

Agreed, I was really hoping for Finn too. All the experts were saying he was still high on the Board. He is still well regarded. All things equal, gotta go with the tough Canadian Junior that is dying to play in the NHL.

Very nice to read about a player we haven't heard much about this year. The Isles have an extremely impressive group of d prospects.

I just posted on Finland's WJC board a question about Pokka's skating, hope that someone there
has seen him.

Many question regarding Isles D prospects.
Mainly who will be in Bridgeport next year?
Has Donavan done enough to make the Isles?
Does DeHann need another year in BP?
Does Kichton get a contract?
Does Mayfield and Russo leave school?
Pedan? Pelech?
Who would they replace that is already in BP?
Sorry for so many questions but I am very excited about the Isles future
on D and it seems like many of you get to see these guys play.

either dehaan or donovan will make the team...i would think kitchon gets a contract..i would expect pedan there not sure about pelech. i would think we would get mayfield but most notre dame guys play 3 years so i wouldn't expect russo.

i would expect Wishart, Maciver, Hill to be gone for sure

imo

Donavan gets every opp to earn a bottom pairing spot next camp

de Hann needs to prove he can stay healthy for a full year I would have him start next year in the Bridge, hes ONLY 21 nothing wrong with him getting another year of development.

Kichton absolutley deserves an ELC or an AHL contract. I dont know how that works but he needs to be playing for us in the Bridge next year or he will be on another team...Could be a offensive gem and I would give him a shot in pro hockey.

I would like Mayfield to stay in school for another year and then turn pro in 2014.
Russo I believe needs another year as well but he does not project to be as good as Mayfield so with Russo you go year to year off of what he shows you in camp.

Pedan I would like for him to try an make the Sound tigers next year.

Pelech who I love and have high hopes for I hope he does not turn pro until either 2014 or 2015.. His offensive game has been so impressive(I dont know if he can produce points in the pros) but the skill is there. I know he can be very good defensivley, I see him as a very solid NHLer and a solid 4th or 5th defensman or even a step better.

Reinhart is our GEM and top defensive prospect with true #1/#2 potential. He needs to be taking care of very carfully. I think we go the STL route and do what they did with Pietrangelo. 9 game stint and back to the CHL.. His Calmness and IQ are so far ahead of his age he can already be a solid pro player but he should be giving some time.

All in all Im very excited with this "D" core anchored by Hamonic and hopfully Reinhart...

Could you imagine if we land a Pulock or Nurse in this draft? I dont even wanna think about Jones, that would be Insane

We have a lot of solid D prospects, but no studs.
Don't know that Reinhart will fit that description as a #1 unless he becomes a more developed offensive force. Right now he reminds of Beouwmeester in the making, not bad, but not a #1.

Kichton deserves an ELC. deHaan has to play at least one full AHL season, his injuries and size have retarded his development.
Garth will need to get his spiel together and sign a minute munching #1/PP QB who will like to come to BKLYN.

Is Beowmeester known as a shut down d-man ? Because I believe that is Reinhart's upside. He reminds me more like a Marc Staal, you put him out against the other teams best line, and he also addds some offense from the blue line. Whenever I see Beouwmeester, I really don't see anything there, except great wheels.

I've heard a lot of Ryan Suter, and after getting to watch him a few times now I would say that's a pretty good comparison. Not an offensive machine by any means, but definitely a solid #1. I know Suter has put up decent point totals recently(46, 39, 37, 45 the last 4 years) but assuming Reinhart gets consitent PP time at the NHL level, I don't think his numbers will be too far below those.

I think if all goes well with Reinhart, we will have a guy playing Suter-like defense who will probably pot 5-8 goals a year/35-40 points. AKA, a stud.

Not defending him, but it was the other d-man that was the pylon.

Kichton has earned a contract. If the Isles don't sign him, some team will.
Mayfield and Russo could use another year in college.
Pedan will be in Bridgeport.
Pelech has another year left in Erie.
Because of the injury, de Haan needs more time to prove he can play a string of games.
Donavan is probably the closest to the NHL.

Agree with the Reinhart being compared to Ryan Suter. Plays a no panic, mistake free game.
The last few games before he left for World Junior camp he was getting powerplay time and
getting some points.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. We're still a year away from really seeing how the blue line is going to shape up for the organization.

This upcoming draft would be a chance to really solidify this group with another premium d-man if the Isles choose to go that direction.

Yeah Erik Karrlson is garbage. Too small, really hampered his game.

NHL Network is showing a pre-tournament game at 12:30 Thursday afternoon,
USA vs Sweden. Canada plays Finland at 9 AM Thursday morning, not listed on NHL
Network but the radio call will be on www.tsn.ca/nhl.

Once again, Thanks Degen Rex ! I wish it was reversed though, I'd have DVR'd that Canada-Finland game, Strome and Reinhart vs Pokka.
