They made that a rule at the beginning of the season.

I'm glad they called it. Terry kept yelling "No!" at the official like the guy wasn't doing his damn job correctly. No, walk your tattooed ass down the other end of the floor while the Bulls take you old men to school.

Yeah I know, I had just never actually seen it called yet to this point.

Edwin Jackson for a few years would be fine with me. He's a solid innings eater and could be flipped rather easily.

Ideally itd be a 3 year deal with some team option/vesting option for a 4th but a 4 year deal would be fine with me.

Just sharing this, because it seems like it could be fun and put to good use with buddies and stuff even if not for money and just bragging rights in some sort of way...

The Chicago Cubs have agreed to terms with free-agent pitcher Carlos Villanueva, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Terms of the deal are not yet available.

Villanueva, 29, has served both as a starter and reliever for the Blue Jays the past two seasons. Last season, he was 7-7 with a 4.16 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 122 strikeouts in 125 1/3 innings. Moving from the AL East to the NL Central should provide a boost in productivity, too.

Precursor to Jackson to the Rangers? Are the Cubs still in play?

I mean, you now have Garza, Shark, Baker, Feldman, and Villanueva. I am not sure they are still in it for Jackson.

EDIT:

While the Cubs are close to signing Carlos Villanueva -- not done yet, despite reports -- they're still in on Edwin Jackson. Want him too.

Well, I guess they want some competition. I'm all for it. Feldman or Villanueva are still solid 'pen options if neither crack the rotation. You also have Wood in the mix.

Yeah, I don't want him either, especially at that price. We lost on Sanchez, oh well, but let's not get desperate.

There isn't much difference between Sanchez and Jackson. I'd hardly call getting a #2/#3 starter at 13 mil for 4 years being desperate.

If anything, I'd say Edwin might be the safer pick with less injury risk. Not saying I'd be terribly afraid of Anibal getting injured, but he has had TJ in the past and doesn't exactly possess the cleanest throwing motion in the world.

I'd rather have Edwin at 4/52M vs 5/80M for Anibal.

I think I'd rather have Sanchez, but a compelling argument can be made to get Jackson and save $28 mil

Me personally, I'd rather save the 28M and extra year of contract. Edwin's numbers should improve in our division, as would Sanchez's, but I think there is more room for improvement with Edwin.

Jackson's been in the league almost 10 years and has worked with Duncan, Cooper, etc. I'd say he is what he is at this point.

Agreed. He's a solid innings eater that will be fine as the #3 guy in a rotation.

I don't think there is much difference between Baker and Jackson. I also think Villanueva and Feldman could match his production too. Villanueva just did match his production in the AL East, albeit making half the starts and the rest in the pen. Those three guys cost very little. Why give Jackson so much more money and term for similar production?

However, I will not be mad if we sign him just so long as it doesn't prohibit us from multiple other big signings next year and onward, which I don't think it will. If it did though, at all, then I absolutley do not want him. 13M for 4 years pays for more than half of almost anyone that could become available.

If we sign him, he shouldn't be relied on to be more than one of the best #4 starters in the league. Garza is a good 1/2, need to acquire another 1/2 through trade or signing and lastly need one more 1/2 to come up through the system, most likely the guy we take 1st in the coming draft barring injury (Appel, Stanek or Manaea).

Obviously if we trade Garza, there is even more work to do, but I think we are all in agreement that he can go for Olt.

Looking at his stats makes me more ok with Jackson. It seems he's got progressively better at commanding the strike zone, which was the main worry about him.

Villanueva did no such thing. He had a 4.71 FIP to Jackson's 3.85, .6 WAR to Jackson's 2.7, and 2.65 K/BB rate to Jackson's 2.90. All of this with a similar BABIP with .275 for Villanueva and .278 for Jackson.

Jackson is significantly better and though I'm not much of a fan of him, given the choice between the two, I'd take Jackson every day and twice on Sunday.
