Decent value but the Wild would be much more interested in trading Phillips for one of Toronto'd d prospects, not a forward.

If, somehow out of this lockout mess, we would be in a position to draft one of Barkov/Lindholm/Drouin/Monahan, I would be open to Phillips for Blacker/Holzer. Otherwise, I'd rather he be included in a package for an established defenseman.

How about Liles? He would make a great top 4 in Minnesota.

An interesting idea, but I am pretty comfortable with our PMDs (Suter, Gilbert, Spurgeon, eventually Brodin). I think I'd rather try to find a guy who would be more "defense first", is an adequate puck-mover and is on the good side of 30 years old. Now, Phillips himself wouldn't return this, so that's why the idea of packaging him with Setoguchi and/or Clutterbuck is appealing to me.

My preference would be to hold onto Setoguchi, as we may need his 18-25 goals and move Clutterbuck to a team that might overvalue his physicality and has a weak 3rd line.

I'd actually be more interested in Franson than Liles but with the Schenn trade, I doubt Toronto would be looking to move another RHD d-man.

Handedness is the most overrated aspect of a defenceman on hfboards. It really only matters for the powerplay, where it's important to be able to tee up a 1-timer to a guy on his off-side.

Franson should definitely be available, and while Phillips addresses an organizational need, he doesn't address the void on our blueline in the context of a top 4 shutdown guy, where losing Franson would make that void more noticable.

Something could definitely be worked around Franson.

Something around Franson for Clutterbuck? What would need to be added where to make it work?

Didn't you read his post he said "defense first". Meaning not Cody Franson.

Maybe a 2nd rounder; we seem to do pretty good picking in that round lately. Assuming Franson fits the description.

Personally, I'd rather hold on to Phillips. He'll need more time to develop than our other forward prospects, but he hasn't shown any reason to doubt his ability to make the NHL someday. We can stock up on defenseman in the upcoming draft, if need be.

Also, I hate when people say the Wild will have too much depth for Phillips to make the roster. That's being far too presumptuous.

Nope, but to be fair I'm really high on Colborne, you don't find many 6'5 centers with his natural skill, he so talented it's to imagine him not succeeding.

From my perspective, I'd prefer to just hold onto Phillips and let him develop. I don't exactly have higher hopes for him as an NHL player, but I'd much rather give him some time in the system before looking to deal him in anything other than a proposal that includes him and other significant assets that returns a larger impact player back to the Wild's NHL roster.
