Viktor Stalberg, Chris DiDomenico and Philippe Paradis

Kris Versteeg and Bill Sweatt

Wasn't worth losing Stalberg alone, nevermind a big C and DiDomenico, who would've been a fan favourite la Darcy Tucker once he graduated to the Leafs roster (should it have ever happened).

Ladd for 2nd rounder (Clendening) and Vishnevsky.

Not a trade, but should of let Hjalmarsson go and signed Niemi instead.

trading away matt halischuk and a 2011 2nd round pick for jason arnott prior to the 2010-2011 season. looked like a decent trade at the time that would fill a hole (and arnott was one of the better devils during the first half trainwreck) but the fact that the devils missed the playoffs made it irrelevant. woulda been nice to have halischuk right about now for the 3rd line.

Kings traded Teddy Purcell AND a 3rd for two months of Jeff Halpern.

I'd take that one back.

Ballard for Grabner, Bernier and our first (Howden).

I like Ballard, but in hindsight (always 20-20), we'd have kept a 20 goal scoring Calder candidate (30 goal scorer on the Isles), we could have swallowed Bernier's contract for another year, and Howden would have really been a boost to our stable of prospects.

Plus, maybe, a better chance at signing Ehrhoff, given that we had signed Hamhuis a few days after the trade occured. Then again, who's to say we would have signed Hamhuis at the time?

Given the choices at the time, I don't lament this trade, but if I found out it didn't happen...."meh". I'd be happier with Grabner (or his return) and Howden. Grabner could have been our answer to Seguin in the finals against Boston

Even as a non-Hawks fan... it hurt to see that team get broken up. During those playoffs, I know I immensely enjoyed watching it but I wish I could go back and just take it all in just a little bit more knowing that would be the last we'd witness of that deep team.

Can someone with full internet access post one of those "Brace Yourselves..." image-macro memes with the tag line: "...for rants from Columbus fans."

Yeah from a Kings point of view, that is a heart breaker. As a Bolt fan (me) :y o:

But at the same time, it was almost like that team was fulfilling a destiny in winning that year. They knew that this was their last shot to win together, so they did whatever they could to win. I think knowing they were going to be broken up was a huge boost for that team to win it all.

But you didn't. Downie went to the Avs. You guys gave up Quincey for that 1st. Since the Avs never had the opportunity to draft Vasilevski, you can't make that statement that way.

Very nice trade for Tampa Bay though, by the way. Wings end up with the short end of the stick in that deal very easily.
I guess the wording was wrong, but I know what he meant. It could have easily went down as a three way trade pretty much.

DET - Quincey
COL - Downie
TB - Detroit's 1st

Good point, I guess the writing was in the sky before the end of the finals. Never thought of it like that!

I find it hard to understand how Luke Schenn apparently left a huge hole on the Leafs blueline when he was mostly riding the pine under Carlyle.

Aulie showed some promise at the end of the 2010-11 season, but came to camp expecting a spot (when Franson and Gardiner were suddenly the upstarts). Even at that point, Schenn was looking dubious on the blue-line, but was one of those players granted a roster spot for past considerations, contrary to the preached "Meritocracy".

Franson and Gardiner are what made both Schenn and Aulie expendable. Burke feels that the game is moving further and further away from the big-bodied, slow moving defencemen.

Aulie and Schenn (and Franson) are basically the same type of player (although Franson shows more offensive upside). Burke believes that the Gardiners, Riellys, Liles' and Phaneufs represent the future on the blue lines. In the case of Phaneuf, power and crushing hits aren't necessarily no longer options, but few players can combine power with speed, so it's a take-what-you-can-get mentality.

Aulie didn't then and still doesn't provide anything to the Leafs' roster they would be missing.

If I had to pick one I would pick Aulie for Ashton. Although even that one is still a little up in the air if I should be liking or disliking it at this point in time.

You're a fool to think the Habs won that trade.

It didn't look like the Canucks were going to be able to sign him. He also refused to play for the Isle. He clearly wanted to hit the FA market and go for the huge contract, which he did.

Not for nothing but just browsing there are at least 3 SFY trades being requested by other teams to have back.

Interesting.

This trade was bad, but happened before the summer of 2010 (it happened in January of 2010).

The worst trade for the Flames, and the only bad one since Feaster took over, is the Regehr deal.

Regehr wasn't worth as much as many think, but the Flames really didn't need to give up the second. Kotalik walking made it a winfall for the Sabres.
