Why would the developer care what system that you buy their game on?

Because NBA2k13 came out in October, so they are upselling the Wii U version to try to get people to buy a second copy. You saw this with Batman as well, just less blatant.

The game may very well be better, I don't doubt it. But the game should speak for itself.

Maybe I'm missing something, but right now it seems to just be bringing the Wii U up to the speed the 360 and PS3 have been at for eons in terms of streaming video options.

Mind you if they add DVR control it could be interesting...but it really isn't going to change anything for most people (the only difference between me watching something on DVR and on the Wii U would be if my TV was turned onto HDMI 1 or HDMI 3).

No it's much more than that. There's a good write up on all of the features here:

I finally hooked the Wii U up yesterday (it was a Christmas gift) and it's a lot of fun. We had 5 people playing Nintendoland and it was a blast!

The only problem that I have is that I can't get the Wired Internet Connection working. The Wireless works fine.

Also a tip to anyone who wants to Link an existing Club Nintendo account. You have to create a New Account for the Wii U through the Wii U and then Link your Existing Account through the Nintendo Eshop.

When enter the Sports category, you’ll be able to select from Football, Baseball, and Basketball – and we’re sure that someday the Nintendo family will recognize the most played and popular sport across the planet: Soccer (or Futball, as it were). For now you’ll be working withe the American egg tossing sport and will have interactive action at your fingertips the likes of which you’ve never seen before with any other television console.
So who do we blame here, Gary Bettman or Donald Fehr here? Or should we all go cry in a corner because no one likes hockey?

Get a couple of the Wii U Remotes as they have the Wii Motion Plus already built in. You can use the regular Wii Nunchucks but you don't need them as often.

Hopefully they'll add NHL & CFL to TVii soon.

At least they had Rogers Digital as an option for my TV provider in TVii.

Anyone here play many of the eShop games?

Already downloading Trine 2, leaning toward Nano Assault and Mighty Switch Force after.

I was hoping to after getting a harddrive from the inlaws...except they decided that a harddrive for my gaming system wasn't manly enough and got me a jig saw and a washer toss yard game instead.

A real man would forge his own HDD out of wood and washers.

Had a lot of fun with Mario and Nintendo Land with my wife, brother, and sister in law. Perfect games to just pick up and play to have a good time.

The updates seem a bit ridiculous for this thing but that's my only real complaint so far. Does anyone know if HBO GO is going to be coming to the Wii U? I see it's on the 360 (my 5th one RRoD'd recently and I'm done with MS until the 720) so I see no reason why they wouldn't add it as an option on the Wii U.

Already got it, beautiful game.

I was hoping for opinions on Little Inferno and Chasing Aurora because they were on sale as well, but I think I'll wait until Nano Assault and Mighty Switch Force go on sale, or at least until I finish Trine.

Not sure where the WiiU fits yet. Waiting to see how the 3rd party developers receive it as the development kits start to go out for PS4 and the 720 or whatever.

That and since I have a new PC the added expense for console + console price games on a Wii U over my 360 or PS3 just doesn't seem worth it unless there was something truly revolutionary... but the offering looks pretty mediocre so far.

EDIT: Too be fair if I didn't have a PS3 or a 360 i'd probably look first at the Wii U.
I would have bought a Wii had it had HD, but instead I opted for the Xbox 360.

If you buy a used Wii U you may get lucky and get some free games with it.

Turns out if you don't follow some very specific steps while getting rid of a Wii U, formatting the hard drive won't get rid of the purchases tied to the console, so whoever picks it up next can just go to the store and redownload everything.

Wii had a similar problem and its amazing Nintendo still has not fixed it.

quick recap:
  • system updates in the spring and summer to improve load times & add miiverse features
  • Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta coming along
  • LoZ:Wind Waker coming to the U
  • new Yoshi game
  • Wii Fit tied into miiverse
  • new title from Xenoblade's developer

I'm looking forward to Wind Waker, though I hope a remake isn't a $60 title. I'm a bit late to the Zelda stuff, as I couldn't get into it as a kid, but really enjoy the games as play them now.

And I just want the Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 titles more than before.

Announced:
Wind Waker HD
SMT x Fire Emblem
xenoblade 2
Yoshis land (similar to Kirby's epic yarn)

Promised new Mario, smash and Mario kart news coming at E3.

Nothing earth shattering, but should be a nice boost in sales. They seem to be saving the big guns for E3 hoping unleashing them will keep them relevant with the general populace. We shall see.
