I might be tempted to take Monahan over Drouin just because he's so much safer. Drouin has insane upside but there also a ton of work to be done before he's ready. Monahan is just so freaking polished in every aspect. That's a close one for me. I havent Lindholm play any games yet but if highlights and consensus are to be trusted, I guess he might be ahead of both at this point. No matter how you slice it, the top five forwards in this draft are incredible.

The big scrub Landeskog clearly didn't deserve any hype.

Kind of a strange comment. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only Swedish forwards to ever go top 5 in the NHL draft are Sundin, the Sedins, Backstrom and Landeskog, and I wouldn't describe any of them as overhyped. Maybe I'm misinterpreting you, but you make it seem like there's been an epidemic of overhyped Swedish forwards, but I really don't see that as the case. If anything, Swedish forwards who go high in the draft have panned out MORE often than your average prospect. There have been some disappointments, like MPS and Robert Nilsson, but these guys were taken 10th and 15th overall, a range where it's fairly common for players not to pan out that well.

And compared to the other guys who's battling for top5 I think Lindholm is hyped by far the least. Assuming hype would be a bad thing.. it's really just people getting excited.

And since we opened that can of worms, there are/were plenty of reason to get excited over for example Paajarvi who played in the World juniors as a 16 year old and made the Swedish World Champs team as a 19 year old, even getting included into the all-star team. Those are things that will hype prospects and rightfully so for the most part. But I don't see the big deal. Any promising prospect will get hyped at some point.

I think he just meant that Landeskog was good enough to warrant the type of hype that Lindholm is getting (the original comment he responded to made it sound like Lindholm was the first Swedish player in a while to deserve this level of hype).

He's probably thinking of Larsson and Hedman even though defensemen they were pretty hyped. Still young and one of them is #1 of his team already and the other one is the #1 in his AHL team during the lock out so I honestly dont know what to believe.. unless I look at his country and probably know why he would say such a thing

Toronto needs to get this guy! I'm a fan and I'm sure he'll go fairly high, maybe even top 4.

Well if there's no season, you'll have a fair chance at him, otherwise DET fans can suffer with another 23+ pick. suckers.

Us super fortuitous leaf fans should get a shot at him no matter if there is a season.

Anyway, about the draft, I'm seeing the top in a few tiers:

MacKinnon
---------
Jones
Barkov
Lindholm
---------
Monahan
Drouin
---------
Shinkaruk
---------
the rest...

The groups are in no particular order, and this is just my opinion. I really wish I could watch the WJC this year live.

Suckers?

I'm sure they are really sad of being the most successful NHL team in the last 15yrs. It must really suck winning back to back cups, going to the finals, 50+ win seasons, etc.... I bet they wish they could reverse their situation with the leafs...

It's pretty obvious he was being sarcastic, especially since he refers to leaf fans as "super fortuitous" the next sentence -- easy tip off.

There's no way MacKinnon is in his own tier. Jones and Barkov are in the same tier and even Lindholm can get there. There are plenty of lists where MacKinnon is 2nd or even 3rd.

It's hard to tell these days with leaf fans, but thanks for the "easy tip off."

No problem. Almost as valuable as your Leafs dig, but hey, we all have to have something to aspire to.

A little sensitive eh? It's called sarcasm... but lucky for leaf fans, they have you to defend them over the tiniest infractions..

PM if you want to respond... we should keep this thread about Lindholm from here on out.

Lindholm - Baertschi would be absolutely amazing. It would help the Flames contend in what will soon be a very tough NW division

EDM - Yak, Hall, RNH, etc.
COL - Duchene, Lands
MIN - Granlund, Brodin, etc.

He's incredibly good on his edges which will really help as a playmaker along the boards. He has tremendous vision - I really like his NHL upsides.
