He was 5'9 and 135 lbs in his QMJHL draft year. He went undrafted. The next year he was 5'11 and 150 lbs. He was cut from Midget AAA and played Midget AA. Quebec drafted him in the 7th round in his 2nd year of eligibility. They didn't have much space on defense in 2010-11 but he had a strong camp so they decided to keep him. He nearly didn't play his first half-season but he was always in the gym. He was the 8th defenseman on the team but later one of them left and another got injured so he started playing regularly. He was never scratched again after this and finished the playoffs in the top 4. The next season in 2011-12 he was 6'1 and 176 lbs. He was the 3rd defenseman to be drafted in the NHL from his QMHL draft class. In the 2010 QMJHL draft, 34 defensemen were drafted before him.
amen to that, John Weisbrod has done a fantastic job these last two drafts. Im curious to see Jankowski in a couple years as he said he will be the "best player in that draft" 10 years down the road.
Only similarities so far are that they're both rail-thin (or Turris was, anyway) and from low-level leagues. Turris had way more to live up to, though (also had better numbers his post-draft season). I wish I could actually watch Janko play so I could see his style.

U of Wisconsin was a much better team than Providence is this year, they had Turris, Geoffrion, McDonagh, McBain. Turris had a good year but also had alot more talent around him as well.
Gilles look decent today. I watched a bit of him, seen him give up the goal. It was a nice shot but stoppable. But other than that he looked good. I also liked Sieloff's game too. Made a couple nice defensive plays.

It did seem like that but still the angle the shot was taken from was a stoppable shot. Only goal he gave up though, he looks to be a solid pick as well.
With the change in our drafting strategy I really hope the Flames rely less and less on FA signings and continue to fill spots from within. That's how the most successful are run in the NHL and were starting to see that actually be a possibility in Calgary for the first time years.

what's his upside from someone that's seen him play constantly?
Best case scenario... bottom pairing 2-way defenseman. He has to get bigger and adds more physicality to his game though. He has to work on his shot also.
He's the kind of defenseman who has the tools to make it in today's NHL. Good skating, good puck-mover and high IQ. I don't see him becoming an offensive force though.
I think he'll need another year of junior next season.

Reason why I am here is I own both the rights to Markus Granlund and Roman Horak. I was curious without any real bias what you guys feel I have here? Are either one of them going to be an NHL top 6 forward or am I look at bottom 6/AHLers here? Any input would be appreciated

Realistically Horak could be a 3rd line scoring centre, we don't know about Granlund yet but probably the same.
Of course you never know, could go better, could go worse.
Granlund is likely either 2nd line or bust. He's not going to end up on the first line, though. Kulak is hard to gauge; he's stuck on the worst team in the WHL by a fair margin, but from what I've heard he's playing well despite his rough scoring differential. Too young to say, but I think he's got the potential to end up as a 2nd pairing dman.
Wow. talk about Nyquist Explosion. If he can keep those numbers up the kid could be a real steal.
