Is Drouin now a lock for the top 10?

Regardless of how he fairs at the WJC and if he is mediocre the rest of the way for the Mooseheads....is he still a top 10 pick?

I think if he gets injuried tomorrow, he still goes top 10, but what if his play levels off?

Clearly. He has a shot at the top-three.

I'd say top 5 pushing for 3

If he sucks the rest of the way, unlikely as it is, yeah, he could have a Grigo fall out of the top 10. If he gets injured and sits out the rest of the season I'd say he'd still be a top 5.

Drouin is all over the map in terms of projections. He's pretty much a lock in the top 10. I hear some scouts have him at 4 after Barkov, while others have him at 3. And believe it or not some scouts have him over MacKinnon. He won't go first overall but its something to note when scouts see his vision and puck skills so elite they like him more than the likely number one selection.

I don't know about a lock, but I think it's highly likely he goes top 10. For those saying top 3 though, not sure I see it. Incredible hands, very good hockey IQ and good skating, but not very physical, nothing special defensively, and a bit of a perimeter player. I really like him as a prospect overall, but I think he'll be hard pressed to beat 3 of MacKinnon, Jones, Barkov, Lindholm and Monahan.

At this point the only players I'd take before him are Mackinnon, Barkov and Jones. At fourth overall it would be a toss up between him and Lindholm for me.

I have only watched him at the WJC-camp games but I thought he looked like a copy of Teuvo Teravainen who fell all the way to 18th. They both have extremely good vision and puck skills.

Likely, I'd say.

But let's just look at last year; Grigorenko was contending even for 1st overall at this point; and eventually dropped to 12th.

Injuries, slowing down on second half, other players rising, GMs reaching or drafting for need etc.. a lot can change between now and draft... if we ever have one.

Up until this season.

He is a lock for the top-5. Probably 4th, unless Lindholm lights up the WJC and Drouin doesn't.

Nothing is certain. Look at Grigorenko for proof of this.

100% sure. Difference between Drouin and Grigorenko?

People and scouts won't question Drouin's lack of effort because he always leaves it on the ice. That's where Grigorenko was hurt because people questioned his consistency.

I'd say he's a lock for the top 5 right now, maybe even going as high as 3. I would say he'll likely go 4th or 5th right now, though.

Exactly my thoughts when I posted. Monahan is out of the top 5 (unless he gets traded to a contender instead of being with the bottom-welling 67s). That leaves Lindholm

Grigorenko's position was never all that secure. A better example would be Forsberg, who was universally expected to go top 5 and slipped out of the top ten.

So no, I wouldn't call Drouin a lock...but much as it was a shocker when Forsberg went 11th, it would be very surprising if Drouin fell out of the top ten.

He's the next Datsyuk. He needs to work on his defense tho.

Don't forget Grigo was 20 when he got drafted

Monahan is out of the top 5 because of the team he plays on? thats the difference between real scouts and HF scouts. Its very possible he gets bumped down but thats because some others have taken a big step foward.

I could see the argument if his stats were suffering but they aren't. Not that I mind, the further Monahan drops the better the odds of the Oilers will get him.

Teravainen dropped so I imagine so could Drouin. When the draft starts getting close you will really start to hear about whatever perceived flaws these players have in their games.

getting picked on Canada's WJHC squad makes him a top pick.. Seguin and RNH could not crack the lineup in their draft years.

a safe bet to got top 5... could make a strong case for 1st overall if things fall in place for him.
