So we've switched from "normal" to "default"?

Probably the right call, I guess. I prefer normal, but almost every other league is default, I think, if other people think that feels "natural."

EDIT: Yup. Definitely prefer normal. The passing, shooting, and hitting is so much less arcade-feeling. Oh well.

EDIT #2: Yeah. This isn't much fun. Can we please change it back, please.

Yeah, Normal is what regular VS and HUT and such are set to. And default means Martin St. Louis can hit Chara and have him do a triple backflip. I really despise default

Brian Gionta just wrecked Pronger and L. Schenn twice on the same shift.

Can we please change it back. It will take some getting used to for folks, I get that. But it is vastly superior in terms of gameplay.

Ok, I had a free 10 minutes to do a quick breakdown of the slider settings on "default" and "normal

EDIT: Sliders are out of 6. That's what that number indicates.

NORMAL:

- Fatigue, Fatigue Recovery, Injury all 3/6 (Human and CPU)
- Puck Control (Human and CPU) = 2/6

PASSING
- Pass Assist = 4/6

- Saucer Speed = 3/6
- Pass Accuracy, Reception, Interception all 3/6

SHOOTING

- Exception, CPU Slap Shot Power = 2/6

CHECKING

GOALIES
- Goalie Passing = 5/6

I'm sure there are other differences, but those are the ones that stood out.

Basically, on default, you only need to use two lines because guys won't tire as quickly, won't be affected as much when they are tired, and recovery much, much more quickly. As a result, they are not only able to play more, they are also better shooters, passers, hitters, etc. when they do play.

Additionally, passing is significantly easier on default, as is hitting. Screening goalies are much more effective.

The CPU AI will not make many adjustments on default, while it will on normal.

I was wrong in one respect--shooting is not directly affected--though, as I mentioned above, once fatigue is factored in, it is.

After doing this, I feel quite strongly that the settings should be set back to "normal."

I'm all for an open forum and poll on this.

to be honest my biggest complaints, from what I can remember, was that pokes were not tripping ANYone. and hits were not registering the way I'd hope they would.

Most importantly, Setting up plays were almost impossible to accomplish, which is going to result in more flop shooting and weak goals... which is what happened. Discourages passing and plays. Makes me want to puke thinking about that boring 1 dimensional skate straight and press up gameplay that everyone will default to in order to be successful.

so if theres a way to up penalities but keep it on a more realistic setting that doesn't discourage passing/setting up im all for that.

Yeah, if you want more hitting, default is for you. If you want realistic hitting, normal is better. Marty St. Louis shouldn't be able to kill Chara. Gionta shouldn't be able to destroy Pronger twice during an 8:00 shift. Poke-checking is the same on both, so that's not really an issue--except insofar as it will be more likely to work with less fatigue. In that sense, normal is better.

Passing is easier on default, which means more passing, but also a lower skill bar. Since many other elements of "default" are conducive to "cheesy" play, I'm not sure the increased passing will encourage the kind of game play your looking for. You need to be more careful in charging and aiming your passes no normal, where as on default, you can basically just charge until you're ready to make the pass.

If we leave it on default, we will also need to monitor minutes played, which is really annoying.

In black n white im way sold man. Again I wouldn't mind keeping it for the rest of the block before I give a full opinion, I didn't play many games in it like i pmed you.

but from what I remember, it was atrocious gameplay and seemed to reward even more terrible plays and discourage good ones.

Message from the (Deputy) Commissioner:

EDIT: It seems the there is a strong plurality, including myself, who want it on "normal."

There are also a few who have concerns about playing that style. It takes some adjustment.

Chuck and I both strongly feel that "normal" will lead to better, more skilled gameplay. The hitting will require a bit of an adjustment, but overall, it is a much better game on normal--which is why EA uses that setting on HUT and VS.

If there is a strong consensus to revisit this in the future, we can, but for now, we've returned the settings to "normal."

Message from the (Deputy) Commissioner:

Just a friendly reminder, no one should be playing anyone else's CPU at this point.

Playing the CPU is only permitted immediately before an advance, if you have unsuccessfully tried to arrange a time to play (through HF message, Chatzy, Xbox, or Facebook). If you don't make that effort, you are not entitled to play the CPU--the game will just be simulated. Anyone caught doing so will lose the right to play the CPU in the future, and, if the problem persists, will be booted from the league.

It is a nice tool to use when people are way--or when two teams just can't find a common time. But please don't abuse it.

It is early in the season--and some of you are new to this system. We'll assume that any issues to this point have been accidents and misunderstandings, but please be more aware for the future.

For all teams that have put claims in on waived players, it is your responsibility to have a roster space for that player. If you do not have roster space for that player, they will go to the next worst team with a roster spot.

Jack or I will decide who gets the waived player(s) 1 hour prior to the advance of that block. If those two teams can not make the "trade" to get that claimed player onto the roster for the sim, they will have to do it the very next block.

The decision has to be as close to the "advance" as possible to ensure the most accurate standings and who wins the claim. Because of this the trade may not be able to be squeezed in right away if each team is not on to perform the necessary transaction. So the team winning the claim may have to wait another block.

How the **** can you play on default? I just played a game in another league on default and I counted 30+ big hits not to mention the perfect passing which is absolute bs.

And the ability to do loose-puck dekes at full speed at will.

Yeah, it is horrible--but it is particularly bad after playing on "normal"
