Guys, is the NHL network the only broadcast for these games?

Thanks in advance.

Skjei has a good shot at making the team if, for nothing else, he's 18. You see a lot of times with these WJC teams when a country has a tough decision to make they'll often times take the younger player in hopes it gives them good experience to lead in their 2nd tournament.

I never really thought Skjei looked skittish out there. The team hasn't been together very long, there's not much chemistry yet and it was their first actual game action. Everyone looked skittish, even Galchenyuk took a period to put his game together with his linemates and he's probably the 3rd best player in this tournament.

No I think all things considered he had a good game. Such a great skater especially.

I think it comes down to him or Sieloff.

I hope you're right because although Sieloff was ok with the puck on his stick, he was backed deep into the zone several times by Swedish forwards which led to good scoring chances. He just kept backing up and it was not good.

I agree with you. He also wasn't as physical as advertised so Skjei's definitely got a shot.

Locks (IMO):
Jones
Trouba
Murphy
Gostisbehere
McCabe

Skjei or Sieloff
Grzelcyk or Reilly

Guys, don't take my evaluation of skjei's first period/game so seriously or to heart. I wasn't saying he was awful. All I was saying was he was average showing some flaws that many young defensemen will show. He definitely has his bright spots. I like his skating ability, I like his offensive awareness. He needs to improve in his own end.

And I only mentioned Skjei because he is our prospect. It wasn't like I was stating he was the only defender who played bad yesterday. As a unit the USA defense was very sloppy at times and too relaxed. Some of the penalty calls were very weak but still that's too many to take.

Skjei will be fine. Let's see how he does in his second game.

Chris Peters is speculating that tomorrow's scratches are the likely cuts.

Gaudreau-Miller-Grimaldi is likely to be the top line for the US. Can't wait to get a look at that.

I'm not sure I'd include McCabe or Gostisbehere as locks, although Gostisbehere really had a great game (as I posted about earlier) and impressed me. Maybe now he would be considered a lock.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was your list of locks + Skjei and Grzelcyk

Ohkaaayy just watched that debacle. I was very overwhelmed by the "big guns" tonight, notably Gaudreau, Miller, and Galchenyuk. Grimaldi was one of the lone bright spots up front for me.

Miller looked like at times he was trying to do too much. Not good on faceoffs either. He did play pretty well in front of the net in the offensive zone.

I also have not seen such a collectively terrible performance from a defense in a long time. Seemingly every shift was montage of turnovers, lost coverage, failed keeps, and players flat out getting turnstiled. Taking Gostisbehere, Reilly, AND Gryz could really go either way for this team.

Reilly especially looked downright terrible. He has no business on the roster, IMO.

According to USA Hockey, cuts will not be announced until Sunday at 3 a.m. ET. It was planned to be annc'd today:

Apparently today's Finland gave the U.S. staff something more to think about. Haven't seen anything like this before. #2013WJC

Hopefully this bodes well for Skjei, I selfishly want him there even though I would've cut him. Didn't get a chance to watch todays game yet, I dvr'd it so I'll watch in a bit.

Team Canada and Team USA chartering a flight together to Ufa? Ah man, I wish I could be on that flight to start a few line brawls.

Really? That sounds ****ing awesome. Despite the rivalry between us, I bet a ******** of guys are friends with each other. If I was on USA or Canada, flying with the other team would probably be really fun.

Sure, a lot of the players are not only teammates, but live together sharing billets. But we do love beating the snot out of one another and then breaking out da beers. Canadian beer. )))

I\m surprised Hockey Canada is so cheap though that they can't spring for their own charter.. I mean with corporate sponsorship coming out the yazooo, a 20 million dollar profit in last year's WJHC charging Canadians a king's loot for tournament packages, ...but anyway.. if I were on the flight I'd be lookin to stir up some action.

Yes.

Interesting that cuts got moved back. At the very least it sounds like the brass wants to sleep on it. Rightfully so.

Not worried about USA.

I still think USA is the 2nd best team in the tournament, and since I have major questions about Canada's defense/goaltending it's a wide open tournament. Finland is a better team than people think, and Joel Armia is one of the top 5 forwards in this tournament. He's an absolute monster and is gonna turn some heads when he hits the NHL in 2-3 years.

As of today I'd but the rankings something like this:

1. Canada
2. USA
3-4. Russia/Finland (too close to call right now)
5. Sweden

With that said, I also think Switzerland and Slovakia have very good teams and could easily turn some heads. Germany I think will be a bit of a surprise too, mostly because I don't think too many people have them on their radar and it wouldn't shock me to win some games.

This is a wide open tourney. None of these teams are perfect and aside from Finland I don't even know that any of them are very well-rounded. Canada is weak on defense and in net, but absurdly strong on offense. USA has the best D in the tourney but can be offensively challenged if the top line + Galchenyuk aren't playing well. Russia is the same mentality as Canada. You guys have all seen what can happen when a great defense plays a great offense. I'm not predicting the USA to win but it wouldn't surprise me at all.

I'm really surprised that we beat USA (and Canada) with that kind of a margin. Finns are good this year, especially with the kinds like Barkov, Armia and Teräväinen in the lineup. This will definitely get my hopes up for the tournament.

Keep an eye out for Aleksander Barkov. In my honest opinion, he is the most promising junior the Finns have this year.

Buffalo Sabres draft pick Jake McCabe will be USA's captain, while Seth Jones, Miller, Bardreau and Trouba will be alternates.
Looks like the reports that Miller would be captain were erroneous.

He's the youngest d-man on the team. He does have a long way to go but he's basically a lock to make the team next year. If you miss the team at 18 it's not a big deal, if he gets cut again next year I think it'd be reason to worry.

I didn't think he was a lock by any means to make the team, but I thought he had a very good game on Thursday once he settled down. If he played for Canada he'd make the team, BTW. USA has by far the strongest D in this tourney.

No offense, but that is a bit ridiculous.

USA hockey really slapping the Rangers in the face though between Skjei and Miller.
