i have hopes that Phillips can at least be that cheap(ish) complimentary player that works in your top six when you only have 4-5 solid top sixers. Like Brodziak, but slower with better hands.

The size is only an asset if you use it.

Also, I hate when people say the Wild will have too much depth for Phillips to make the roster. That's being far too presumptuous.
This, he is doing perfectly fine with the crappy minutes he is getting in Houston behind Granlund, Larsson and Mcentyre.

In some cases you are absolutely correct. In some others, you could no be more wrong. It comes down to the individual player. For example, any time TO tried to play Schenn on the other side, he looked lost. Some guys can adjust easily, some cannot. It's not the best generality, but it is absolutely true in some cases.

Franson should definitely be available, and while Phillips addresses an organizational need, he doesn't address the void on our blueline in the context of a top 4 shutdown guy, where losing Franson would make that void more noticable.
You could not be more wrong. Clearly, you've never played D before.

Try teaching someone to get taller...

Try teaching someone to be more physical...

One's possible, guess which.

I couldn't be more right, and yes, that's coming from somebody who is a defenceman. When you're talking about amateur level players, most are substantially better on one side than the other.... but when you're talking about NHL-calibre talent, it really doesn't make a difference to these guys.

While you're right, at this point, physicality should be instinct. That aspect of his game is already determined, more or less.

I would definitely keep Philips, unless it was a really good trade

That's also why I'm not ready yet to trade him, even though his numbers with the Marlies could be better.
