Don’t kid yourself …. The Swedes have their professional league, as do the Swiss, the Germans, Russians, etc… as do the Americans. They all seem to survive. There is no reason why Canada can’t have the same. In fact it’s long overdue. If the NHL season is cancelled, blow it up and start over.

They had that. They called it The National Hockey League.

Even in 1925, they were after 1 thing, American dollars.

The funny thing in all this is that the money that they lose from not playing this season is more than they would have missed out on by agreeing to the owners' demands.

Idiots. Just idiots. Everyone is stupid.

Same could be said for the owners if they agreed to the players offer.

Well, obviously, this is also true, and I should have put that in my post, but that's why I feel like laughing at the situation. The owners and players are all a bunch of greedy idiots who cost themselves more money and pissed off their fans again. Geniuses.

Agreed, I will watch every game still (for free, on the internet), but long gone are the days where I buy a jersey, or any merchandise or attend any games.

Daly was interviewed on Sportsnet the other day and it didn’t sound promising. He began by saying the season wasn’t yet over and there was hope but then quite clearly listed off a number of issues that separated the two sides and also what the NHL has conceded (when compared to the old CBA). Daly expects the players to unanimously agree to the “disclaimer of interest” and didn’t say much more on the subject. When asked what he perceived to be Fehr’s ultimate goal in all this, he simply said he had no idea and that question would have to be answered by Fehr himself. He then summarized by generalizing that the NHLPA are still attempting an end around and ending back at, or very close, to that 57 percent number.

Though Daly attempted to keep the interview as upbeat as he could, it is obvious that the chances of a deal being struck by mid January is slim to none.

"NHLPA gives board OK on dissolution"

So much for the players not being unified behind Fehr.

You would need a time machine for that to happen.

They just needed a majority vote for that to happen.

Would be really interested to see the results of the vote, but willing to bet that is never released.

Hmmmm .... unified you say. To vote for relieving Fehr of his duties, yet they're still behind him 100 percent. Confused yet?

Come off it. It's a bargaining ploy that any simpleton can figure out. If it ever gets there, the courts will not take this abuse as frivolously as the NHLPA does.

Funny how the other leagues used it and got a deal done, maybe the owners are more concerned about it than you are. Does the NHL really want to find out what side the court would take? I doubt it.

It may be a bargaining chip, but the players are willing to go through with it too.

The NBA never got to court, the players dissolved the Union then bargained for themselves. The NFL got to court and the players lost. The NHL players won't win this and it's a dumb move on their part. If they go to court and lose they are in the weakest position ever and the NHL willl lowball the hell out of them for taking it to court and the players will have to accept.

No they didn't. The Owners and players signed a new CBA before any of the cases actually went to court. The only court related issue the Owners "won" was getting the specific injunction that lifted the NFL lockout overturned on appeal. The courts never ruled on the legality of the lockout.

If they go to court and win they get 3x the normal damages they would be owed because it is an anti-trust case. All it will take for the players to bend the Owners over is a single pro union decision to be held up upon appeal. Because that decision will become the basis for every single lawsuit that follows.

For the Owners to win in court they would need a clean sweep, because any pro-union judgement will provide give the players the precedent they need to bankrupt them.
