Anyone into HUT this year? I'm going home for Thanksgiving today and plan on picking up NHL 13 asap and going right into HUT.
Any thoughts or advice?
I know about the no careers which seem to get mixed reviews but I'm actually happy about that having playing Fifa UT before.
I loved the way HUT was last year in NHL; I can't stand this year's format. I enjoy FIFA UT, but with the NHL having a more formulaic prospect system, it just made sense to have long term, contract-based development for young players and higher base stats with little room for improvement or long careers for established veterans.
So I played a decent amount of HUT yesterday and it is a ton of fun. I found the game a lot harder though with the new skating and I also haven't played it in forever but it took me like three tries to beat the rookie tournament and two to beat the next pro one! I only had a 1500 puck bonus from '12 so I didn't have much to start with but I'm liking my team now:
Thats what it ideally looks like anyway but I run into contract trouble a lot. I had a Bernier-Carter-B. Gionta line going lol but it wasn't that good. Gio just gets tossed around for me in this game. Josefson has been a complete monster at #1C for me it think he is just under 2PPG, everything he touches seems to go in. When I got Henrique I just couldn't move Yayo down a line. Henrique also scored an OT winner for me in the semis of a tourney, what a surprise. I also have the other chick legend Ruggiero but she is out of contract and I think there is a few more I'm missing. I almost got a Larsson that started at only 900 pucks but then someone outbid me to 2k and I didnt have enough.
Going home for break today and that means I'll be playing a ton of Xbox! Can't wait to get NHL 13 fired up again!
Then for Christmas I'm getting Fifa 13, AC3, and Borderlands 2. I'm super stoked for AC3, the campaign is going to be so fun and then when my buddies are online we are going to be rocking Borderlands co-op. killin it

Borderlands 2 is so much fun. My brother and I got it for each other as early Xmas gifts along with a couple friends. Tons of action and fun.
I've tried giving NHL 13 another chance this week and I can honestly say this is the worst traditional sports game of the past decade.
Really? It's definitely not the best but I don't think it's that bad. Just takes some getting used to. My problem with it is the times when you outshoot your opponent 3-1 and lose by a few. Other than that I think it's ok.
It's tough getting back into Madden though. It's actually decent this year but my only problem with it is that it's way too easy to complete passes and impossible to defend against the pass. Andrew Luck ripped me up.
NHL got a lot better with the updates to the game so far. The problem is that some of the glaring problems in the game are still untouched. Hitting and poke checking are still way overpowered. Really ruins the flow of a game when you can obliterate a guy going full speed on a breakaway from behind with a light body check with near perfect effectiveness.

this. i'm, honestly, a direct beneficiary of the poke check considering that's always been how i defend anyway and even i think it's ridiculous. i used to take pride in my poke checking, now it's just too easy. the hitting from behind in open ice that destroys your ability to use the middle of the ice is also annoying.

Yup, same here. Was always much more of a poke-check guy than going for hits. Figured it was far safer than taking myself out of position with a missed hit, and if you know how to time it/position yourself, you should have very very little chance at getting called for a trip. Now I actually resist using the poke-check because its too ridiculous. And I hate having to try to hold back.

Yeah the first one was amazing and I can only imagine the second being better. I only played the first with one other friend which was a blast but now we got a third and are trying to convince a fourth. Gonna be sweeeet
