Salomaki looked real good today in the WJC pre-tournament games. He was on a line with Granlund and Armia. He's a lock for the roster.

Vainonen, a 2012 pick, didn't look all that great. He had pucks bouncing on him all night. Hope he makes the squad.

In news out of the Finnish WJC camp, 2012 draftee D Mikko Vainonen (Kingston - OHL) was cut from Finland's roster for the WJC's this morning and 2011 draftee F Miikka Salomaki was named an alternate captain for the team.

Salomaki plays on the top line for Finland.

2012 draftees Max Gortz (SWE) and Jimmy Vesey (USA) are the only other Preds prospects still in contention to play for their respective countries at the tournament. Vesey was named player of the game in an exhibition yesterday, but will need another solid game tomorrow in the final exhibition before rosters are due. Vesey is still on the bubble, Gortz is locked into a spot for Sweden.

I didn't think Vesey was particularly great or noticeable, and I've seen it said that his POG was more on the "good sport" level because he had to wake up and take a Harvard exam at 6 am. Like you say, he seems to be on the bubble.

I'm still pretty disappointed that Aberg wasn't named to the Swedish team.

I was very surprised Vesey was POTG yesterday. I thought his skating was very rough and that he looked to be processing information a step behind his linemates a bit too often. He was active though along the boards and had a nice end to end rush in the third. Housley trusted him to start OT, but I thought Vesey made a poor choice dumping the puck off the draw and wound up on D the rest of the shift. As a coach, I also found myself really cringing at times he choose to change. When there is a 3 on 3 rush heading back into your end of the rink and you are the first forward back, you don't peel off for a change at the blueline...

Charles-Olivier Roussel just got his first professional point. Assisted on Lajunen's 1st goal of the year.

I was at the game. Roussel fired a slapper from near the right point. Lajunen deflected it in the slot through Hutton's 5 hole. It was Lajunen's first goal in Milwaukee this season.

Bang, Valentine, Maclellan and others were scratches. Latta had 2 fights. Mueller had a TKO in his fight. I think Rockford may avoid him in the future. Smith should have tossed a shutout, but he chased a puck into the circle and never re-established good position in the crease during a scramble.

Vesey is the lone forward scratched for this morning's final pre-tournament exhibition. Cuts expected after the game. Unless there is an injury or someone plays their way out of the lineup this morning I'm not liking Vesey's chances to survive the final cut.

After a poor performance vs. Finland yesterday, Team USA took extra time to deliberate their roster and decided to cut Stephane Matteau (NJD) and keep Jimmy Vesey. There is one more decision left to be made on D, but Vesey has made the roster!

Vesey (USA) and Salomaki (FIN) will be the two Preds prospects to watch in the tournament.

Vesey played well, I thought. Has good upside

Görtz suffered an injury prior to the tournament and was initially scheduled to miss the event, but tried to play through the injury during the pre-tournament exhibitions. After the game vs. the US, he was unable to continue and had to withdraw from the roster. Görtz will not be playing for Sweden at the event.

Bitetto isn't in Milwaukee. The rest of the AHL players are in Milwaukee.

Cam Reid isn't Predators property at this point. Ads fans will have to weigh in on whether or not he's still on an ATO or if the Ads formally signed him.

Cam Reid was signed to a PTO by Milwaukee on November 20th that he is still playing on...

He needs to work on his skating and turns. He has the size to play in the AHL.

Ekholm posted a picture of his foot in a boot a couple of days ago on his twitter feed. In Swedish he said “My best friend the next few weeks”. In response to a question about what happened, he replied that his skate caught in the ice, he lost his balance, and fractured a bone.

http://twitter.com/matekh14

Reading what happened, I had a bad flashback to a couple of years ago when Cal O’Reilly caught his skate in the ice and fractured his leg.

Unfortunate for Ekholm and the Ads. Hopefully, Mattias will heal quickly and have no lingering issues.

The ice has been bad in Milwaukee this season. It ruts easily. It looks bad after 5 minutes of play. I have seen a lot of players from the home team and visitors fall by themselves. I think the ice isn't cold (hard) enough. Maybe the refrigeration in the 25 year old BMO Bradley Center isn't as good as it used to be. Maybe that will improve since the outside temp is currently 8 F (-13 C), versus being 32 or 40 F (0 or 5 C) recently.

Vesey having a good tournament. Scored his first goal against the Canadians in the blowout this morning. Total 5 pts in the 6 games with a +3 rating.
