If it was an infraction, and even Spott says it might have been late and been an interference penalty (which according to NHL rules can result in a game suspension - while this is not the NHL we know IIHF is tougher on injuries) when you commit a foul and it causes injury you are at the mercy of the IIHF.

The same rule would apply to anyone from any country.

Canadians don't need to make excuses just have to be prepared and play the games within the same rules as everyone else. There is nothing new happening here.
Well this was 2 pre tourney games, I am not sure the same Finnish refs are going to be even reffing the WJHC games anyway. The injury may have bearing on further discipline, in this case an interference penalty, not a blantant dirty hit in my eyes. A shoulder to shoulder hit is still allowed in hockey on any continent. Better get Monahan on a plane, we may need him.

I don't think Reilly takes penalties...only one he has this season is for a fight very early on.

Mark McNeil would be the better, easier choice.

He's already there as an injury replacement. Monahan would be a great choice if Jenner is ousted, given this is Europe, and he is a Canadian, I almost expect it.

^^ I would have chosen Sean Monahan over McNeil.

Good luck Canada! You'll need it! USA will shock the WORLD!

Usually we see veteran prospects over players eligible to get drafted. Monahan or Shinkaruk should be next if jenner is gone.

What a joke that is. Say goodbye to hard hitting hockey after this lockout. With the way international hockey has become, and the way the OHL and CHL is becoming, hitting will be out of hockey by the next CBA

That was a terribly late hit that injured another player. If it was the other way around, we Canadians would be applauding, if not asking for more!

Terribly late? It was late lets be real here. Is it Jenners fault he is built like a man while that swede is built like a 14 year old boy? Please. Kid should have had his head on a swivel. Not blaming it on the swede, Jenner shouldn't have hit him late but in any other instance there would have been no call, let alone a suspension if Petterson got hit and got right back up. The only reason it was analyzed so in depth was because the kid was taken off on a stretcher. I'm sure if he got up we wouldn't have seen a replay of it, unless it was in sportcentres hit parade. It was shoulder to shoulder, a beautiful check, just a tad too late.

Also, don't put words into other people's mouths. When kessel was rocked the first game he came bak from injury/ his first game as a leaf by ohlund , I thought that it was a beautifully clean check

It was a hit but the point is it's a late hit no matter, doesn't change the fact no matter how much we think it might not been bad.

Folks be nice to each other, even if you have conflicting views, don't have to go for each other's neck. Keep it simple.

Half second Late shoulder to shoulder hit does not make it a bad hit. It makes it a penalty, the injury was an unfortunate injury, but this is not a knitting sport. Canada will survive, I just feel badly a young man is denied from playing because he finished a check. I would feel this way if it were any kid in the tourament.

This is a perfect example why I read things here with sceptism unless I see it myself. If I read this thread without seeing the hit, I would have believed Jenner made the dirtiest, worst, intent to injure hit with some of the over reactions in this thread.

A shoulder to shoulder hit half sec late is what it truly was, no head hunting, and the kid was not defenceless, he was facing Jenner all the way. Jenner`s a big boy what`s he suppose to do hug him when the kid was staring at his pass.

I guess some prefer we take hitting away from the game.

Noticed Jenner was not removed from the roster, this in turn may be a rallying focal point for Team Canada of us and against the world, all in all, this may turn out to be a positive for Team Canada's fortunes.

Jenner was jobbed, and Spott could very well use this as a motivational rallying point.

I don't agree with the suspension. Feel it should have been 1 game at most. Sucks for Jenner. Someone else will have to step up.

Given his history

- thumping Mattaa, Resulting in him missing last years WJC

- spearing Kuznetsov

- Now and incredibly late hit on Pettersson

I think he got away easy, Considering it is the IIHF after all.

yeah, that's blaming the victim.

if it wasn't such a dirty, late hit, the kid likely doesn't get taken off on a stretcher and isn't hurt.

i tend to agree. jenner has a history.

i don't see this as a big loss for canada at all. might be better off without jenner and his bad penalties. should mean a more skilled player (mackinnon?) gets more ice time.

Jenner is our best faceoff guy and defensive forward on this team, with how tight the ref's call the games in IIHF if were taking 6+ penalties a game like the 2 exhibition games Jenner will be extremely important.

Reasonable suspension.

Take the bias out of it and compare it to late hits in the NHL that have resulted in suspensions recently.

As soon as you cause an injury during an infraction you are at the mercy of the officials. Had the hit been on a player in the play there'd have been no suspension, as it would have been a legal hit. An illegal hit changes everything.
