Our PP entry isn't looking good. Needs to improve.

I can already hear the people who only watch highlights talking about how great our power play is

Just noticed how many of the boards are catered to the North American market. I guess it's obvious where this tournament is king.

Disappointing period against an inferior team.
Not crisp. Not organized. I'm not impressed with coach Spott thus far.
It's early though, there's talent on this team. We just need to put it together.

This group doesn't really impress me. They just don't seem to have any offensive creativity.

Not very impressed by Scheifele that period either, he was falling a lot just skating around.

As has been noted before, it really shows Mark isn't used to playing wing. He isn't a great skater, absolutely not the first few strides, which means he's often getting the puck without seemingly being ready to go.

It also doesn't help that on the power play he's stationary in the high slot.

Yeah I think there's a lot of factors contributing here, big ice, unfamiliarity with teammates etc. I'm not really worried about Scheifele. He just needs to work on that first step, his top end seems acceptable enough for a bigger guy.

Goal!
Nice play by Mark!
Love the way he set up the nuge, then stuck with the play.

Mark's getting alot of cred from the Swedish commentators for sticking with the play in front of the net instead of going behind the net.

Mark again with a ton of shots this game. Looks like he is the trigger man on the top line.

Can't wait to see Jacob "The Wrecking Ball" Trouba tomorrow.

6 SOG today, and 2 goals. Not a bad shooting percentage. I still think he's better as a centre, but it's nice to see him try to adapt his game to an unfamiliar position. His first step needs work though - hopefully this drives him to improve that, as his ultimate speed is now fine.

Also looking forward to seeing Trouba tomorrow. Now, onto the Spengler cup this aft!

Although I don't think playing wing is nessesarily the best utilization of Mark's talent from a skill set perspective he does appear to have some chemistry with RNH and Mark can put it away when he gets a chance so maybe that is the right line for him to be on? I don't think it will be bad for his overall development to get this shot and learn some new skills and as you said reset his priorities around his first step challenges.

Mark's skating and balance have come along way this year and I am not sure where they are going to eventually top out at? I am a firm believer that there is more than one way up the mountain and Mark will always be an effective two way player that will produce points at the NHL level. He is not ever going to flash like Burmistrov or Wheeler but he is the type of player that can stick a knife in your heart by being in the right place at the right time or make the creative saucer pass that is a thing of beauty. It would be great if he was a high end skater but I will be happy with "good enough" as long as he produces where it counts on the score sheet.
