He'll be good, and I remember a lot of people including myself wanted him in the 2nd round would he be there.

The fact that someone doesn't make the WJC doesn't make him a slouch or a bad player. He's a physical player and a tournament like that is not necessarily his type of game, where he could hurt his team with the European reffing. Canada cut Tom Wilson for the exact same reasons. I don't know about you but I'd grab Wilson on my team any day of the week in the NHL.

Two top10 picks were cut by Team Canada in Matt Dumba and Derick Pouliot. That doesn't make them busts.

Size or Physicality? Because Della Rovere and Tootoo are both below 6'.

Well I think he will be but that's another story

In other news... I really think Canada relies too much on putting together a group of skilled players and not a team. You see the US and Euros play many games/tournaments with the same group where as Canadians play a few tournaments though over a couple of years and that's all the chemistry they're building. I think Hockey Canada should make the effort to organize our U17,18,20 a lot more than the weak summer camp.

I understand why Groulx wanted Draisatl so bad in the import draft, kid has a pretty nice vision and a nice frame. Also impressed by Tippels (sp?), kid plays in the USHL, he'll most likely move to the CHL too next year, both certainly have NHL potential. Sad we can't see Cüpper, as he has been Shawinigan's best player on most nights this year, with Labbé and Maheux.

Tiffels

German coach is probably saving Cupper for games where Germany have realistic shot to get some point(s).

Bruins will be solid for years if they can keep the core together
I'm not sold on Subban. Picking goalies high is a bad move in general. Price was an exception to this rule, and we made the right move with him. Subban, not so sure.

Why? Because it's hugely important that we win the world juniors?

Please.

How about sending out the best kids we have and letting them learn against the best kids their age, from all over the world. Win or lose?

Just a thought.

I don't agree with that assessment. Picking a goalie high is a mistake IF you end up wrong about him. 'Cause there's so much things to know a goalie past his age of selection that you almost never know how it will turn down. Yet, if you are right....why would it be a problem? Personnally, I prefer Vasilevski to Subban but I have no doubt Malcolm will be playing in this league.

My point about this issue is that you will CLEARLY see great goalies evolves even if they are picked in the other rounds. But if you have a great one in hands...why let him go just because it's too early? Should have Price gone to the 2nd or 3rd round?

If anybody understand Czech..there's like this long interview that is live about our own Tomas Plekanec. Showing off his cool Montreal Canadiens bag that he brings everywhere.

They had an interview with Collberg on the Swedish feed, but can't say I understood a word outside of power play

I agree with your argument. And you know a hell of a lot more than me about junior players. If you say Subby Too is in the same category at his age as Price was, then I buy what you are selling.

But out of that special category, I still say it's best to pick goalies in round 2 or 3 at best.

The spelling is close to Bartok, Bela. 20th century Hungarian composer and pianist. A modernist. Dead.

Had no idea he laced on the blades as well.

OK, that was an idiotic post.

It's a joke they invited him ahead of some better players. Matteau is massively overrated. His only skill is pissing off his coach and teammates and scoring garbage goals.

So is this our WJC thread? I thought we would have threads for each day?

Good to see Collberg score the first goal for them.

Gotta say the Finns intrigue me after the pre-tournament games and today, they got nothing from Barkov and Teravainen and still beat Latvia pretty easily.

And yes, Matteau should have never been invited instead of Adam Erne.

Man, I hope Russia is a total flop in this tournament. Barely beating Slovakia right now.

Collberg's goal was a one-timer on a 5 on 3 PP:

Yeah I hope so, but they also barely beat Slovakia and the Czech's last year as well if I remember correctly.
