He clearly meant what he said, and it's not the first time he has taken a poke at Canadians. It's alright though, and it just makes the rivalry more interesting.

As for Canadians being dirty, the game plan has always been (well after 1972, anyway ) to play on the edge but clean. Sometimes guys that are young and stupid cross that line, or like Connolly in the previously posted video, just make selfish plays to even the score. In that regard, yes, Canada can sometimes be dirty, but let's not delude ourselves into thinking that Russia is above that themselves.

Russians are absolutely clean.......except for the taunting, stickwork, behind the play infractions and diving.

Canada can be dirty, absolutely. So can every other country. Canada gets the most attention for sure, though, so it is to be expected that they get the most criticism.

Out of every team Russian's taunt and showoff the most. A close second would be the Swedes who complain the most.

This is why most Canadians cheer for Finland if we happen to lose.

Don't forget the 2010 Winter Olympic wholesale destruction of Russia by Team Canada as well. That was an even more enjoyable display.

The Canadians need to be careful in that game. The Russians are going to be bawling full tilt at every tap, they need to keep their composure and play.
Yeah, that glovedrag on the face from behind was the hardest hit i ever seen! Damn you russians for not keeping your head up when someone is grabbing your face from behind. Wake up! Stop admiring your passes !!!

Canadian players aren't dirty, they are just "passionate".

Not really, the truth of the matter is Russian's dive at every opportunity and when they don't get the calls they tend to turn around and call Canadians dirty or the refs being partial.

As long as their is no blatant cheap shots, I have no problem with players playing right on the edge.

One thing I have always enjoyed over the years was seeing Canada physically own teams and all the highlight reel hits over the years, the make up of this team + the big ice will limit that to some degree.

Guys, you're falling for TSN's manufactured drama here. It's pure sensationalism designed to get them hits.

By cheating they mean doing the little stuff like grab a guy's stick with one hand when you're in the corner or in a scrum. Almost everyone in the pros does that kind of thing.

So aside from Jenner, can you name one "goon" on the Canadian team?

With nearly a full period left, that was one of the most selfish things to do. Not only that, he could've done more with a good body check. The russian was about 2 ft from the boards, a good hit would've been more effective, pumped up his team and been clean. Selfish, but sometimes 18-19 year olds can do that.

I'd say a guy like Camara, with 2 seasons of over 130 penalty minutes in the CHL could qualify as a "goon". He has skill and can play the game, but clearly he's not on Team Canada because he's one of the 12 most skilled forwards in the country. It's his physical play that got him there. Whether or not that sometimes crosses the line to "goonery" is open to intrepretation.

I don't know anything about him so I can't say much. However I think most people will agree that Canada has a very highly skilled team for the most part. Yes they are physical but skill is a big part of this years team. And it has been a big part of many of the Canadian teams in recent years. There is a big difference between the teams Canada sends to this tournament now and the teams they used to send. I remember one year Jordan Tootoo was running around hitting opposing players 3 seconds after they let go of the puck and no penalties were called.
