Why did NHL let national radio contract lapse?

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but why did the NHL let its contract with what was then Westwood One for national radio broadcasts lapse after the '07-'08 season? (I ask this because in the summer of 2011 here in the Cleveland area, a new FM sports radio station owned by CBS ["92.3 the Fan"] debuted, and that station got the Westwood One [now Dial Global] pro and college football broadcast packages [it now has college basketball, I think], and I thought that it would also get that network's NHL Radio broadcast package. I later found out on the web that that was not the case, and when I later e-mailed Howard Deneroff of what's now Dial Global, he did not offer a reason why his network stopped broadcasting NHL games.)

Perhaps because they signed deal with XM (now SiriusXM) for 10 years about that time.

Because ratings probably sucked, so Westwood One probably decided it was a waste of money...
