Coughlin deserved to be fired if they didnt make the playoffs last season.

I dont think this season was his fault. I think the injuries compounded the tough schedule.

Let's be honest -- as long as the Giants are a big ratings earner, the league will always schedule them tough games in November to December when the NFL picks up steam towards the postseason.

That's the only reason i can fathom the Giants being scheduled six of last year's eight playoff teams between games eight and 16.

Injuries are only a problem when you don't have the depth to make up for it. We've seen games without Boley and Rivers and have Herzlich or Paysinger step in and have absolutely sucked.

IMO the season rests on this teams "star" players. Tuck has had a deplorable season, Eli has been average at best, Nicks has not been healthy enough to be effective, and Cruz (while showing he is the real deal) has not been the playmaker he was last year...the list of players underperforming goes on and on.

On to coaching: I do believe we need changes at OC and DC. Gilbride's playcalling leaves me dumbfounded at times and doing a whole bunch of this The predictability of playcalling in situations like 3 and short, it seems as if we're either doing the ineffective shotgun draw or throwing a 40 yard bomb down the field. The Giants seem way to reliant on the big play this year, I rarely recall us doing short routes and a lot has to do with KG's horrible calls.

Fewell is as uncreative on defense as KG is on offense. The lack of pre-snap movement is a major problem along with the total lack of blitzing. When you're struggling to get a pass rush and have corners who simply can't cover 1 on 1 (CWeb) theres a play for that: its called zone blitzing. Something he rarely does.

In the end, its a total team and coaching debacle. Defending Super Bowl Champs don't play this soft on D and this inept on Offense.

Looking back on it, Eli pretty much strapped this team to his back last year and said "get on boys, I'm winning a World Championship."

Can't expect him to do that every year, especially with the team around him getting worse this year, and him not having his best year to begin with.

But I still don't think we're as far away from competing as some people think. I think a couple of improvements on the O-line and one new defensive end would make a world of difference right there. That's what, 2 or 3 players? Easier said than done, but not a mountainous task either.

The running will fix itself. David Wilson can be an effective player with any sort of halfway decent O-line which we haven't had this year.

Jets look to be making some big changes. Sparano is going to be gone. Reports are imminent firing. They are apparently searching for a GM as well and Tanny will go to somewhere in the organization to manage the finances and cap. Ryan appears to be safe, and I think he should be. This is clearly his worst season, but he also lost his best players on both sides of the ball. The offense is abysmal, but can be fixed. There are nice pieces: Kerley, Keller, Holmes, Greene and Powell aren't bad. They can use a better QB for sure, but the RT needs to be addressed. I hope Ryan stays. He's a very good coach. He needs to learn about time management though.

I agree that Ryan should be safe. He took the team from the gutter to prominence just a couple of years ago. You can't forget that because of one bad season where he had alot less talent to work with.

At the very least he's earned himself a mulligan.

i hope the giants can get a big back somewhere to go with wilson cause im not sure if brown will be the same player after his injury. if they can get a solid big running back to go with the speed of wilson they'll have a very good running back combo. i kinda miss the days when they had a great ground and pound rushing attack.

The team that he took had a lot of players that he didn't draft on it. So it's not like he did it completely by himself. If anything, I'd argue that he ****ed the team up by drafting a mediocre QB and then ruining him by "not caring" about the offense.

If the Jets want to stick with him, it will be to their detriment. He's not head coaching material.

Look at Ryan season-by-season. He's performed around the average of all Jets coaches.

I don't think some people realize just how unbelievable Eli was last year.

In fairness, I thought that the Defense was outstanding from the Jets game all the way to the Super Bowl.

The offense was great all throughout, but the rest of the team shrugged off how subpar it was at that game and just dominated. In hindsight it's ridiculous that I expected that to happen again.

Not only that, but Hakeem, Cruz, Eli and 'Ham took it to an even FURTHER level after that game. It was insane.

We'll see that again before Eli retires.

Seriously. The team last year was really not that great. The deficiencies on the O line, run game, and Defense were pretty horrendous. Everybody just got hot at the right time.

I actually don't think Hakeem gets enough credit for the playoff run last year. His play was ****ing incredible. Literally mind-blowing stats.

Yep. I've been maintaining a healthy Hakeem is a top 3-5 WR in the league. When Hakeem is healthy I only take Megatron and Fitz over him definitely, and then he's tied with a few guys.

Shame he got ****ed by injuries this year. Love the guy, such a playmaker.

The issue is he's really become injury prone since he was drafted. It's a shame. I love the guy, too.

Yeah, that's my concern as well. When healthy the guy is explosive as anybody to ever play in the league, but he's been banged up every season now, with this one being the worst.

i really hope he can come back strong next year.

It's something I mentioned two days ago; mostly with regards to Nicks. On the one hand, you applaud their toughness and willingness to come back hurriedly and play. On the other, it can be more of a liability and detriment to the team as a whole.

I don't find him free of blame, but the development of Sanchez, the poor drafting on offense, and ineffectiveness of players isn't totally on him.

Sanchez has regressed, but they don't play to his advantages. He is good on the move, but never roll him out. Play action is big too. Rarely use it. He is not a traditional drop back QB. Neither is Tebow, but they wouldn't do that for himif he played either. They need a good play caller. Sparano isn't that. Neither was schotty to an extent, but he is better than sparano.

Personel sucks too. Need some depth at WR. Kerley and Holmes are good. Keller is as well, but when one is down, nonetheless two, the offense bogs down. Need more skill outside. Hill is promosing, the rest can go.

Lastly, the drafting has been poor. No impact players coming later as starters or even role players. Kerley, Slauson, and that is it out of later rounds (4 through 7). Rounds 1-3 have been okay, minus wilson, ducasse, and others not being as good as they can be.

Removing tanny and sparano is a must. Kavanaugh needs to go as well (QB coach). Hope pettine.comes.back

How is his mishandling of Sanchez NOT on him? He cared so little about the offense that he was content with Schotty staying on as long as he has. He was content with getting Sparano to **** him up even more. His lack of caring about that side of the ball is what screwed Sanchez (well, that and that he was a bad pick to begin with).

Rex has been abysmal at drafting.

Exactly. The previous post mentioned how they don't play Sanchez to his strengths. Well it's the head coach's job to say to the offensive coordinator to change it up and play to his strengths. Rex doesn't know anything about offense so he can't do that. Rex wants to win with defense. There's been a handful of teams in the whole NFL history that have done that.

The drafting is a whole other subject. Every year there's a guy who Rex claims "We saw him while scouting another guy". John Connor was a waste. Bilal Powell isn't exactly setting the world on fire but he could be a good change of pace back. They wasted a pick on Scotty Mcknight because he was best buds with Sanchez. They traded Leon Washington, who was AWESOME here, to draft Joe Mcknight because he was on USC. I mean I could go on and on and on about the busted picks in his tenure. Not to mention Tannenbaum trading away picks. This is a huge reason why there's no depth on that team.

Blow it up and start the inevitable. Rex will get a mulligan because management is still holding onto the 2 AFC championship games. And the worst part is most GM's want to choose there coach. Rex stays you're losing out on candidates for the job.

I thought they only ran plays that Sanchez felt comfortable doing, which is limited, by the way.

the giants haven't really been that great in most of the recent seasons. the only reason we won last year was because eli manning is the definition of clutch and the defense actually started to try towards the end of the season. the team just got hot at the right time, i dont attribute any of that to coaching. just my opinion.

Just like last year, this team is a friggin headcase. When they're on, they are literally just straight unbeatable. World killers. When they're off, its laughable. A comedy.
