Nice list, are Storm Phaneuf, Nikolai Goldobin and Leon Draisaitl close?

Nice list, just like I said in the other 2014 top 30 thread, I could see Fabbri rising. Same for Bennett and Ritchie, big year for the OHL. Also glad to see you back on hf!

Agreed on Nylander. I think he has superstar potential. Best offensive player to come out of Sweden in years. Years.

I think Hayden Fleury has a good shot at being a top 3 guy when it is all said and done

...he's like 16 years old. Calm down, a lot can happen between now and when he's drafted. Saying he's the best thing out of Sweden in years is hyperbole at best right now.

Kapanen 4th? IMO this seems like a very weak draft for Finland and I don't regard any of our prospects as a first-rounder at the moment.

Oh yes, very much so. Still believe it though.

Keep in mind that most "superstars" are hyped at a early age. I mean, what do you think about McDavid? And he's not even draft eligible until 2015. Yet most are saying he's the next thing. Same thing happend with MacKinnon when he was 16.

He was only 16 a few months ago
Mackinnon's global hype started when he was like 14-15.

Great list as usual!

Who do you think will go first in the 2014 NHL draft amongst the 16 years old defencemen in the Q? Any chance for second or third round selections in that group?

Salituro is a late birthday so he will be 2015 eligible.

where does Chase De Leo fit in your rankings Scoutman?? Not a deep US draft, but I expect Chase to be a top 40-50 pick as long as he continues to get stronger

I've been pumping his name out for over a year now, his skill is incredible. I don't think top 15 is out of the question, but top 25 is more likely if he's a first round pick. For a smaller player he doesn't shy away from the psychical play and he's surprisingly fiesty too for a smaller guy. I don't think his size will hold him back.

Funny how Portland has De Leo and Petan, two smaller fiesty guys with good skill.

Chase is a great prospect, and he reminds me a bit of Vince Trocheck as a smaller guy unafraid to get dirty. If he landed anywhere near the top 15 I would be pumped...Portland is stacked, and they are making a case for a lot of highend US kids as well to come to their team.

As long as Chase gets a bit stronger I hope for top 30 range, but I agree that he is a fiesty skilled player who is very underrated on these boards.

What is the consensus on this draft in terms of hype? Usually at this point we start hearing it. With the craziness of 2013 and the excitement already of 2015 with McDavid and Barzal, how does this one look?

Is it like 2011, where at this time in 2010 we were excited about Taylor vs. Tyler while hearing 2012 might be the best in years? 2011 sounded weak, but then it ended up looking strong, especially the top 10 or so.

Thanks

I don't remember reading that the 2012 draft was going to be the best in years.

I do remember the 2011 draft being pegged as a weak draft, as long as a few years out.

Not really seeing how De Leo is underrated on these boards...Only about ten 2014 draft guys are getting significant attention on here to begin with.

Just as an example, McCann looks like a top twenty guy for 2014 but I haven't heard a peep about him on the prospects board.
